The study was carried out during a 3-year period. Of 9501 cattle examined, 736 (7.7%) were infected with cysticerci of Taenia saginata. The endemic foci were identified and prevalence was significantly higher (P < 0.005) in animals from Noorabad Mammasani (10.7%), Kenareh (10.0%) and Shiraz area (8.5%) than elsewhere. The prevalence was significantly higher (P < 0.005) during spring and autumn seasons. The results from 283 studies of rumen liquid, taken by means of oesophagus probe, from different species of cattle (ox, cow, male and female young cattle) and sheep (adult wether) are compared. Stools examinations of zebus were made in Madagascar between 1975 and 1981 for determining the importance of Fascioliasis gigantica in the six provinces of the island during this time. High percentages of F. gigantica eggs were found in the stools of the different infected zebus-herds of five provinces. No fasciolid infection was noted in 1979 in the cattle of the province of Diego-Suarez. Differences were noted between the infection rate obtained by fecal examination and the rate indicated in the veterinary reports. The significance of these results is discussed.

The incidence of dicrocoeliasis (61.8%) is higher than that of fascioliasis (25.5%) and their peaks do not occur at the same time of the year. The peak for the former occurs in the dry season while that of the latter occurs in the rainy season. The incidence of dicrocoeliasis and fascioliasis in female cattle was found to be higher than that of male cattle. Double infection was higher in female (14.7%) than in male hosts (9.6%).

Studies carried out on feedlot cattle show Berenil at 7 mg/kg to be the treatment of choice in trypanosomiasis although repeated doses may be necessary. Resistant strains of Trypanosoma (Duttonella) vivax and Trypanosomas (Nannomonas) congolense survived dosages of between 0.5 mg/kg and 1.0 mg/kg of Trypamidium and were cross resistant to Homidium bromide.

Dovenix and Bilevon-injection (manufactured by SPECIA, France and BAYER, West Germany, respectively) were tested for their anthelmintic efficacy against Fasciola hepatica in cattle. The drugs proved highly effective against both adult and immature flukes. The faeces of the treated animals were negative for F. hepatica eggs when examined 91 days after the treatment. In experiments with rats Dovenix and Bilevon-injection were tolerated up to eight times and ten times higher doses than the normal therapeutic dose, respectively.
