Adaptive intelligent controller for a lower limb rehabilitation robot using QAOA-based online membership optimization.

Adaptive control of lower-limb rehabilitation robots is challenging due to the nonlinear dynamics of coupled joints, patient-specific uncertainties, and external disturbances during human–robot interaction. This study presents a hybrid quantum-inspired adaptive intelligent fuzzy control framework for a 3-DOF lower-limb rehabilitation robot. The quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) is used to tune fuzzy membership function parameters online, while the fuzzy logic controller uses joint position error and its derivative in a closed-loop configuration. Triangular membership functions

HRV-anchored autonomic-morphological structured factorization for interpretable multimodal cardiovascular risk prediction.

Cardiovascular risk prediction from heterogeneous physiological signals supports early warning in bedside and wearable monitoring, where ECG, PPG, HRV, signal-quality indicators, activity context, and clinical metadata jointly carry evidence of short-term deterioration. However, existing approaches face two limitations: HRV-based models are physiologically interpretable yet cannot represent waveform morphology, whereas conventional multimodal deep models entangle autonomic regulation, cardiovascular morphology, activity-related interference, patient-specific baseline, and acquisition uncertain

Artificial Intelligence for CELLSEARCH Image Analysis.

The number of circulating tumor cells (CTC) and tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (tdEV) is an independent predictor of survival in patients with metastatic carcinomas. Being one order of magnitude more abundant than CTC, tdEV can provide complementary prognostic value. On CellSearch immunofluorescent images, operators can identify CTC and tdEV based on morphology, DNA, cytokeratin, and CD45 fluorescent intensity. This manual process is time-consuming and potentially affected by subjective interpretations. To overcome these limitations and maximize standardization among different research c

Ephaptic coupling and the source-sink effect of cardiac conduction.

As a result of the electrotonic effect, under gap junction coupling, a critical number of excited cells is needed to elicit electrical conduction in cardiac tissue, a phenomenon called the source-sink effect. However, it is unclear how ephaptic coupling affects the source-sink effect. To address this issue, we carry out computer simulations to investigate the effects of ephaptic coupling and its interaction with gap junction coupling on conduction triggered by the following types of depolarization: (i) an external stimulation; (ii) a delayed afterdepolarization; and (iii) automaticity. Simulat

Knowledge Distillation and Reinforcement Learning in a Human--Machine Collaboration Delivery System With a Robotic Arm.

Robotic arms are widely used in various aspects of human-robot collaboration. The primary goal of this study is to explore the usability of robotic arms for delivering objects to humans in dynamic environments. Traditional robotic arms often face limitations in path planning, such as difficulties adapting to dynamic environments and complex developmental processes. To overcome these challenges, this study employs reinforcement learning (RL) to train four models-the Approach RL Model, Delivery RL Model, Decision RL Model, and Merged Model-as alternatives to conventional path planning control. Automated image-based classification of rat fecal consistency using an object-detection tool.

OBJECTIVE: Manual classification of rat fecal consistency is widely used in gastrointestinal and pharmacological research, but it is highly inefficient and exposes researchers to allergens due to frequent defecation and continuous handling. Automated image-based analysis addresses a gap in high-throughput experimental workflows by reducing human error and improving scalability. Therefore, this study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) model using the YOLOv5-L6 object-detection framework to automate the classification of fecal consistency into four categories: normal, soft, muddy,

scDrugLink: Single-Cell Drug Repurposing for CNS Diseases via Computationally Linking Drug Targets and Perturbation Signatures.

Central nervous system (CNS) diseases such as glioblastoma (GBM), multiple sclerosis (MS), and Alzheimer's disease (AD) remain challenging due to their complexity and limited treatments. Conventional drug repurposing strategies often rely on bulk RNA sequencing data, which can overlook cellular heterogeneity and mask rare but critical cell populations. Here, we introduce scDrugLink, a computational method that integrates single-cell transcriptomic data with drug targets and perturbation signatures to improve repurposing. For each cell type, scDrugLink constructs a Drug2Cell matrix based on dru

HGAlign: Biologically preserving batch correction and classification for metabolomics via heterogeneous graph alignment.

Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-MS) is a powerful tool for profiling complex biological samples. However, large-scale metabolomics experiments often suffer from substantial batch effects caused by variations in sample processing, instrument conditions, and acquisition protocols. These non-biological variations obscure true biological signals, reduce reproducibility, and compromise the generalizability of downstream models. Existing correction methods either rely on oversimplified linear assumptions or risk over-correcting and removing meaningful biological

GCN-BBB: Deep Learning Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) Permeability PharmacoAnalytics with Graph Convolutional Neural (GCN) Network.

The Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) is a selective barrier between the Central Nervous System (CNS) and the peripheral system, regulating the distribution of molecules. BBB permeability has been crucial in CNS-targeting drug development, such as glioblastoma-related drug discovery. In addition, more CNS diseases still present significant challenges, for instance, neurological disorders like Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and drug abuse. Conversely, cannabinoid drugs that do not cross the BBB are needed to avoid off-target CNS psychotropic effects. In vitro and in vivo experiments measuring BBB permeabilit

Exploring the autism and functional neurological disorder association: Considerations from biopsychosocial, neuropsychological and computational models.

Evidence is accumulating regarding an association between autism and functional neurological disorder, a common cause for a wide range of neurological symptoms affecting motor, sensory and cognitive systems. Symptoms can include paralysis, tremors, sensory disturbance, vision loss and dizziness. Functional neurological disorder exists at the complex intersection of physical and mental health, neurology and psychiatry, and body and mind. Despite a recent resurgence in clinical and scientific interest, functional neurological disorder has lagged behind other causes of neurological symptoms in re

Comprehensive analysis of the type VI secretion system in Neisseria: identification, distribution, and evolutionary insights.

The genus Neisseria, a gram-negative diplococcus, includes commensal and pathogenic species that infect mucosal tissues, causing diseases such as gonorrhea and meningitis. The type VI secretion system (T6SS), a multifunctional molecular machine that facilitates the ability of gram-negative bacteria to deliver effectors for bacterial competition, virulence, and interaction with host cells, has been widely studied across various bacterial taxa. However, research on the T6SS in the genus Neisseria remains limited. In this study, we employed comparative genomics and pangenomics, among other bioinf

Congenital Lung Anomalies in Adults.

Congenital lung anomaly (CLA) refers to a rare group of malformations that are typically identified prenatally or in early childhood. However, a significant proportion of cases evade detection until adulthood and either are incidentally discovered or manifest with symptoms of recurrent respiratory infection or pulmonary hemorrhage. While most CLAs have characteristic imaging findings at CT and MRI, they remain a diagnostic challenge due to the infrequency with which they are encountered in adults. Radiologists frequently play a pivotal role in suggesting the diagnosis and guiding appropriate m
