Prenatal echocardiographic assessment of right aortic arch.

OBJECTIVES: To report our experience with fetal diagnosis of right aortic arch (RAA) variants based on the ductus arteriosus (DA) anatomy an … ar ring (CVR). Of these 37 patients, on postnatal confirmation, 21 (56.8%) had RAA with Kommerell's diverticulum, left posterior ductus arteriosus (LPDA) and aberrant left subclavian artery (ALSA) (RAA/LPDA/ALSA), 11 (29.7%) had a double AA (DAA), four (10.8%) had RAA with Kommerell's diverticulum, LPDA and mirror-image (MI) branching (RAA/LPDA/MI), and one (2 …

Third-space endoscopy: Current techniques, clinical applications, and future directions.

Third-space endoscopy refers to a set of endoscopic techniques that allow access to the submucosal space or "third space" between the mucosa and muscularis propria, enabling therapeutic intervention while preserving mucosal integrity. The unifying concept across all third-space endoscopy procedures is the creation of a submucosal tunnel with a mucosal flap acting as a safety valve, allowing separation of access from therapy. This principle is the key factor underlying its rapid adoption across diverse indications. The evolution of third-space endoscopy began with the submucosal endoscopy with

Ultrasonographic appearance of gallbladder diverticula: a pictorial essay.

Gallbladder diverticulum is a rare developmental anomaly characterized by a herniation-like outpouching of the gallbladder wall. The reported incidence in autopsy studies ranges from 0.0008% to 9%. Most reported cases have been diagnosed postoperatively, and the role of ultrasonography in their detection remains uncertain. Based on our experience, we present a set of ultrasound features that may aid in the identification of gallbladder diverticula. Although often incidental, some diverticula may mimic cholecystitis or pose challenges during cholecystectomy. Despite limited literature represent…

The Dublin International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) Consensus Conference on Best Practice Recommendations on the Pathology of Glandular Lesions of the Urinary Bladder.

The Dublin ISUP Consensus Conference covered the proceedings on the best practice recommendations on nonurachal glandular lesions of the uri … ting bladder adenocarcinoma; (7) representative or targeted sampling will be sufficient for bladder diverticulum resection specimens; and (8) molecular analysis in genomic profiling should be performed only in advanced or metastatic bladder and urachal adenocarcinomas for targetable therapy. This report on glandular (nonurachal) lesions of the bladder from the …

[Rare massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding: Three cases of Dieulafoy's disease within diverticula of the descending duodenal and a literature review].

Dieulafoy's disease is a rare condition that can cause acute, life-threatening massive gastrointestinal bleeding and is prone to misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. From May 2023 to April 2024, 3 patients with Dieulafoy's disease within diverticula of the descending duodenum complicated by upper gastrointestinal bleeding were admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University and Dafang County People's Hospital. Their clinical data and diagnostic and therapeutic processes are reported to enhance awareness of this disease. All patients presented with massive gastrointestinal bleedin

Calyceal diverticula: Clinical, radiological and histopathological findings of an uncommon entity with presumed congenital origin.

Calyceal diverticula (CD) are relatively uncommon urologic conditions that generally follow an asymptomatic course and rarely require medical intervention. CD are thought to have a congenital origin due to abnormalities during the process of ureteral bud formation. Clinically and radiologically, they can mimic multiple neoplastic and non-neoplastic renal processes, with potentially relevant differences in the management of these patients. Symptoms are usually associated with the presence of stones, obstruction to the drainage of the diverticulum, large size, or secondary infection. In chronic …

Urogynaecology and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) can lead to a presentation to urogynaecology services with multiple symptoms including vaginal prolapse, overactive bladder symptoms, voiding dysfunction, bladder pain syndrome, recurrent urinary tracts infections, stress urinary incontinence, recurring bladder diverticula, vesicoureteral reflux, pelvic floor pain or spasms, and complicated postnatal perineal wounds. This article explores the pathophysiology of these conditions in causing urinary urgency, incontinence, and infections; highlighting the key investigations and management considerations for women with

Current possibilities of minimally invasive therapy of oesophageal diverticula.

Oesophageal diverticula represent a relatively rare pathology of the oesophagus requiring a specific diagnostic and therapeutic approach. Interventional therapy is indicated for symptomatic diverticula, diverticula with other pathologies (tumour in the diverticulum, gastroesophageal reflux disease, low-malignancy gastroesophageal junction tumours). The open surgical approach is being increasingly replaced by minimally invasive surgical, endoscopic and combined methods. Surgical mini-invasive methods use transaxillary, thoracoscopic or transhiatal laparoscopic approach, often with endoscopic as…

[Appendiceal diverticulosis, a potential mimic of low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm: analysis of 20 cases].

Objective: To study the clinicopathologic features and the key points of differential diagnosis of appendiceal diverticulosis (AD) and low-grade mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) to avoid over-diagnosis. Methods: The clinical data, pathologic features and follow-up information of 20 patients with AD, who were diagnosed in the Peking University Third Hospital from January 2010 to November 2019 were collected and compared with 44 cases of LAMN which were diagnosed during the same period. Results: Among the 20 cases of AD, hypermucinous epithelium, filiform villi or undulating epithelium and mucosa atroph

Pathology and pathogenesis of diverticular disease and patterns of colonic mucosal changes overlying the diverticula.

The aim of this article is to review the pathology of diverticular disease and draw attention to the histological changes that affect the wall and the mucosal lining of the sigmoid colon in this common condition. We were the first group to propose a histological classification for sigmoid colitis-associated diverticular disease, and in this paper we are adding another feature to our original observation.
