Platelets release several mediators that modify vascular integrity and hemostasis. In the present study, we developed a technique for efficient transgene expression in platelets in vivo and examined whether this targeted-gene-product delivery system using a platelet release reaction could be exploited for clinical applications. The present study summarizes the results of 12 cardiac surgical procedures performed in a carrier of Haemophilia B and in six patients with Haemophilia A at a single centre from 1979 to 1998. We have recently isolated R7, a spontaneous Moloney murine sarcoma virus (MoMuSV) 124 variant. We report a case of a patient with HELLP syndrome, hemorrhagic shock due to liver rupture and late postpartum eclampsia superimposed on lupus nephropathy and chronic hypertension. This patient was delivered at 26 weeks by C-section. Aggressive and complex surgical and medical treatments were necessary to achieve hemostasis and stabilize the patient. She recovered and was discharged to home on the 24th postpartum day in good condition. The premature baby was discharged home in fair condition on the 131st hospital day.

BACKGROUND: AFE (amniotic fluid embolism) is widely known as a disastrous rapid-progressing clinical entity. The incident ranges from 1:800 to 1:8,000. The mortality rate reaches 61-86%. Neonatal survival is reported at 70%.
METHODS: We describe the case of a healthy 29-year old primigravida developing amniotic fluid embolism during labour. Acute respiratory failure and hypotension combined with seizures were the initial symptoms.
