Multifunctional Intelligent Hydrogels Based on MnO2 Nanozymes and Ca2+ Signal Regulation for Diabetic Wound Repair.

Diabetic refractory wounds are a prevalent and severe complication of diabetes, whose pathological progression is jointly mediated by multiple factors, including oxidative stress imbalance, chronic inflammation, impaired angiogenesis, bacterial infection, and biofilm formation. Current clinical hydrogel dressings generally suffer from drawbacks such as single-function performance, potential toxicity of nano-components, static networks incompatible with dynamic wound conditions, and the absence of bionic repair signals. Therefore, they cannot simultaneously satisfy the dual repair requirements

The utility of dynamic chest radiography in patients with asthma, COPD, COVID-19 and ILD: A pilot study.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Assessment of breathlessness requires a combination of imaging and lung function testing. Dynamic digital radiography (DDR) of the thorax is an imaging technique that allows physiological and anatomical information to be gathered at the time of chest X-ray and has the potential to significantly streamline diagnostic pathways. The aims of this study were to investigate the acceptability of DDR to patients and explore the correlation between DDR-derived measurements with lung volumes measured using full pulmonary function tests (PFT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We condu

Sonlicromanol Mitigates Sepsis-induced Heart Injury via Mitochondrial and Pyroptosis Modulation.

Sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) is a severe consequence of systemic infection, primarily driven by mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, and pyroptosis. Sonlicromanol, a mitochondrial redox-modulating therapeutic agent, has shown promise in preserving mitochondrial function, but its role in sepsis-induced cardiac injury remains unclear. This study evaluates the protective effects of sonlicromanol in a rat model of sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction, with a focus on mitochondrial dynamics, mitophagy, and inflammasome-pyroptosis pathways. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected t

Phosphorylation of JIP4 at S730 Presents Antiviral Properties against Influenza A Virus Infection.

Influenza A virus (IAV) is the causative agent of flu disease that results in annual epidemics and occasional pandemics. IAV alters several signaling pathways of the cellular host response in order to promote its replication. Therefore, some of these pathways can serve as targets for novel antiviral agents. Here, we show that c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK)-interacting protein 4 (JIP4) is dynamically phosphorylated in IAV infection. The lack of JIP4 resulted in higher virus titers, with significant differences in viral protein and mRNA accumulation as early as within the first replication cycl

Allosteric Coupling Between Drug Binding and the Aromatic Cassette in the Pore Domain of the hERG1 Channel: Implications for a State-Dependent Blockade.

Human-ether-a-go-go-related channel (hERG1) is the pore-forming domain of the delayed rectifier K+ channel in the heart which underlies the IKr current. The channel has been extensively studied due to its propensity to bind chemically diverse group of drugs. The subsequent hERG1 block can lead to a prolongation of the QT interval potentially leading to an abnormal cardiac electrical activity. The recently solved cryo-EM structure featured a striking non-swapped topology of the Voltage-Sensor Domain (VSD) which is packed against the pore-domain as well as a small and hydrophobic intra-cavity sp

Trajectories of Dynamic Risk Factors as Predictors of Violence and Criminality in Patients Discharged From Mental Health Services: A Longitudinal Study Using Growth Mixture Modeling.

Background: Individuals with severe mental illnesses are at greater risk of offenses and violence, though the relationship remains unclear due to the interplay of static and dynamic risk factors. Static factors have generally been emphasized, leaving little room for temporal changes in risk. Hence, this longitudinal study aims to identify subgroups of psychiatric populations at risk of violence and criminality by taking into account the dynamic changes of symptomatology and substance use. Method: A total of 825 patients from the MacArthur Violence Risk Assessment Study having completed five po

Semi-Automated Analysis of Diaphragmatic Motion with Dynamic Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Healthy Controls and Non-Ambulant Subjects with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Subjects with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) suffer from progressive muscle damage leading to diaphragmatic weakness that ultimately requires ventilation. Emerging treatments have generated interest in better characterizing the natural history of respiratory impairment in DMD and responses to therapy. Dynamic (cine) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) may provide a more sensitive measure of diaphragm function in DMD than the commonly used spirometry. This study presents an analysis pipeline for measuring parameters of diaphragmatic motion from dynamic MRI and its application to investigate MRI

Dopaminergic contributions to distance estimation in Parkinson's disease: a sensory-perceptual deficit?

Recent research has found that perceptual deficits exist in Parkinson's disease (PD), yet the link between perception and movement impairments is not well understood. Inaccurate estimation of distance has the potential to be an underlying cause of movement impairments. Alternatively, those with PD may not be able to perceive their own movements accurately. The main objectives of these studies were to evaluate (1) whether distance estimation is influenced by static perception compared to perception during movement in PD, (2) how visual motion processing contributes to distance estimation during

Dynamic annular geometry and function in patients with mitral regurgitation: insight from three-dimensional annular tracking.

BACKGROUND: Real-time three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography and unique software permit mitral annular (MA) tracking throughout systole to assess MA remodeling and function. Whether MA structure and function are altered differently depending on the etiology of mitral regurgitation (MR) is currently not known. METHODS: We evaluated dynamic MA characteristics in patients with significant MR secondary to mitral valve prolapse and functional MR and compared them with normal controls. Novel 3D tracking software (based on 3D optical flow combined with block matching) was used to identify 16 circum

Viral kinetics and exhaled droplet size affect indoor transmission dynamics of influenza infection.

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the effects of viral kinetics and exhaled droplet size on indoor transmission dynamics of influenza infection. The target cell-limited model with delayed virus production was adopted to strengthen the inner mechanisms of virus infection on human epithelial cell. The particle number and volume involved in the viral kinetics were linked with Wells-Riley mathematical equation to quantify the infection risk. We investigated population dynamics in a specific elementary school by using the seasonal susceptible - exposed - infected - recovery (SEIR) model.

Radiomics on spatial-temporal manifolds via Fokker-Planck dynamics.

BACKGROUND: Delta radiomics is a high-throughput computational technique used to describe quantitative changes in serial, time-series imaging by considering the relative change in radiomic features of images extracted at two distinct time points. Recent work has demonstrated a lack of prognostic signal of radiomic features extracted using this technique. We hypothesize that this lack of signal is due to the fundamental assumptions made when extracting features via delta radiomics, and that other methods should be investigated. PURPOSE: The purpose of this work was to show a proof-of-concept o

Dynamic Protein Adduct Formation by Methylmercury: Molecular Targets, Ligand Exchange, and Toxicological Consequences.

Methylmercury (MeHg) is a highly toxic environmental contaminant that preferentially interacts with sulfur- and selenium-containing biomolecules. Although MeHg exposure is associated with disruption of redox homeostasis, calcium signaling, mitochondrial function, and neuronal processes, the molecular mechanisms linking MeHg chemistry to these diverse biological effects remain incompletely understood. A central feature of MeHg chemistry is its high affinity for thiol and selenol groups and its ability to undergo ligand exchange reactions with low-molecular-weight and protein thiols and selenols

A Comparison of Optimized and Stride-Wise Adaptive Control on the Biomechanical Effects of Personalized Ankle Exoskeleton Assistance During High-Speed Walking.

This study systematically compares two personalized control strategies for ankle exoskeletons: human-in-the-loop (HIL) optimized torque profiles and stride-wise adaptive torque control. Through biomechanical analysis of 11 healthy participants walking at 1.50 m/s, we evaluated these approaches across multiple performance metrics. Both strategies demonstrated comparable effectiveness in reducing soleus (SOL) muscle activity (36.8% versus 35.8%) and biological ankle torque (34.1% versus 36.6%), with no significant differences observed at the group level (p > 0.05). However, the optimized torque

Altered neural oscillatory dynamics underlie reduced anticipatory schema use during event segmentation in adolescents with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum disorder.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by diverse symptoms that may stem from atypical integration of sensory information and prediction processes. Event Segmentation Theory (EST) offers a framework to examine how individuals parse continuous experience into meaningful units. This study investigated whether altered event segmentation in adolescents with ASD arises from atypical neural oscillatory dynamics underlying prediction and updating processes. Behaviorally, adolescents with ASD showed a weaker adaption of segmentation behavior to the occurrence of situational changes than neuro
