Exploring Hmong Shamans' Beliefs on Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Cancer incidence among Hmong Americans has increased significantly since the early 2000s. Familiarity with and understanding of the disease is low due to limited exposure in countries of origin, lack of terminology, reliance on shamanic healing practices, and restricted access to screening. Health and healing within Hmong culture have been the domain of shamans, whose practices focus on spiritual rather than physical ailments. To understand how Hmong shamans conceptualize cancer, this study explores their beliefs, experiences, and views on collaborating with allopathic practitioner

Evaluation of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Toward Thyroid Nodules in 456 Patients with Thyroid Nodules.

BACKGROUND Thyroid nodules, common in adults, especially females and older individuals, are mostly asymptomatic. While the nodules are largely benign, distinguishing malignant lesions is crucial. Overdiagnosis and overtreatment pose risks. Knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) surveys can identify knowledge gaps and inform targeted education; however, no studies have explored this in Chinese patients with thyroid nodules. This study aimed to investigate the KAP toward thyroid nodules among patients with thyroid nodules. MATERIAL AND METHODS This web-based cross-sectional study was conducted

Understanding Drivers and Effects of Real-Time Information Seeking on Meningitis Knowledge and Attitudes.

This study took a lab-based approach to test both the drivers and effects of information seeking, in the context of meningitis. Participants (N = 107) answered a survey where they indicated their actual knowledge, perceived knowledge insufficiency (i.e. the gap between perceived and desired knowledge), and attitudes regarding meningitis. They were then given the opportunity to seek information online, and those who sought information (n = 83) answered a post-seeking survey. The results showed that perceived knowledge insufficiency and attitudes significantly predicted information seeking inten

Parental vaccine hesitancy: Recent evidences support the need to implement targeted communication strategies.

In 2018, Europe experienced a surge in measles cases, revealing the consequences of suboptimal immunization coverage. This trend was exacerbated by long-standing vaccine hesitancy. Parental attitudes toward childhood vaccines have increasingly shifted, influenced by ethical, religious, and safety concerns. Vaccines hesitancy has substantially increased after the Covid-19 pandemic. Using PubMed, we reviewed cross-sectional studies, published during years 2023-2024, related to parents' vaccine hesitancy, with the aim to provide an overview of its prevalence, underlying reasons and consequences f
