In recent years substantial data accumulated in the literature supporting the direct detrimental effect of tobacco smoking on periodontal health. The significantly inferior periodontal condition of smokers cannot be solely attributed to poor oral hygiene, increased calculus formation and altered subgingival microflora. Ophthalmomyiasis is the ocular infestation by dipterous larvae. It has been described in patients from rural areas, poor hygiene, or contact with animals. However, there are sporadic reports of this infestation in urban areas. We present the case of a young man without risk factors, from an urban area in southern Peru, in whom we found 10 larvae at ocular conjunctiva. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is considered a major public health problem worldwide, and a significant number of reports on nosocomial and occupational outbreaks have been reported. This systematic investigation of HBV stability and susceptibility to different antiseptics revealed that HBV infectivity was very stable, with a half-life of >22 days at 37°C.
