Robotic versus Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: Length of Stay and Readmission.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopy has long been the standard minimally invasive approach for gallbladder removal. Proponents suggest robotic surgery may improve outcomes such as readmission rates and length of stay. METHODS: A systematic review of the literature was conducted using articles from PubMed, EBSCO: Medline, and Cochrane databases. Peer-reviewed studies published between January 2015 and November 10, 2025, were included if they directly compared robotic cholecystectomy (RC) and laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) outcomes in adult patients. RESULTS: Nineteen studies were included, consisting

Recovery from semantic prediction violations during sentence processing in preschoolers with and without developmental language disorder.

Prediction is an important component of language comprehension, and language users may pre-activate multiple possible lexical continuations to different degrees. However, it remains unclear whether children with developmental language disorder (DLD) generate graded predictions and recover from prediction violations in the same way as their typically developing (TD) peers. The present study investigated graded lexical activation during real-time comprehension of sentences with unexpected endings in preschool-aged children with developmental language disorder (N = 34) and age-matched typically d

Beyond Spelling: Oral and Written Expository Discourse Skills in Adolescents With Dyslexia.

Students with dyslexia may produce shorter written texts with poorer content and less complex language than peers, but it remains unclear whether such differences reflect increased writing effort associated with dyslexia or co-occurring non-phonological language difficulties. Therefore, this study compared oral and written discourse skills in Swedish adolescents (11-16 years old) with dyslexia (n = 16) and typical development (n = 37). Each participant explained a sport or game of their choice-first orally and, on a later occasion, in writing. Samples were analysed for productivity, syntactic

Evaluation of dental ages of children with type I diabetes using different dental age estimation methods: a retrospective cohort study.

Type 1 diabetes may affect skeletal and dental development, but its influence on dental age estimation remains unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the estimated dental age of children with type 1 diabetes by using Cameriere, Willems and Demirjian methods. Panoramic radiographs of 58 children (29 with type 1 diabetes and 29 healthy controls) aged 4-15 years were retrospectively evaluated. Dental ages were estimated using the Cameriere, Willems, and Demirjian methods and compared with chronological age by group and gender. Statistical software SPSS version 23 (SPSS Inc., Armonk, NY)

Characteristics and Factors Linked to Declined Manual Dexterity in Frailty in Community-Dwelling Older Women.

Finger dexterity declines in frail older adults, but confounding by age and cognition limits inference. This study aimed to isolate the association between frailty and dexterity in community-dwelling older women. We assessed 119 women on the Kihon Checklist (KCL), cognition, Nine-Hole Peg Test (NHPT), grip strength, upper-limb muscle mass, and attention. NHPT was performed with the dominant hand under normal and "inhibit" conditions (concurrent isometric pinch with the non-dominant hand). Participants were classified as robust or frail by KCL. After propensity score matching based on age and c

Examining Early Vocabulary Growth Trajectories in Late Talkers in a Low-Income Longitudinal Sample.

Studies show children in low-income households have heightened risk of developing as late talkers (LTs). Scholars have attributed the cause of these differences to variability in child-directed and observed language input, parenting quality, attendance at childcare facilities, or some combination therein, as briefly reviewed. However, this study focuses on a sample entirely of families experiencing low income to explore differences within this group. This study explores growth trajectories for child vocabulary production from age 8-30 months in a racially-diverse low-income longitudinal sample

Investigation of Behavioral and Emotional Characteristics of Children With Vocal Nodules.

OBJECTIVE: Although physiological and medical factors play a role in the formation of vocal nodules (VNs), in recent years, personality tendencies and related behavioral characteristics have been reported to be among the contributing factors. In this study, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) was used to compare the emotional and behavioral problems of children with VNs and healthy children with normal voices. METHODS: In this descriptive comparative study, 55 parents of children aged 4-17 years who presented to the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) clinic with dysphonia, underwent vi

Social stress task with parental support or self-instruction decreases negative cognitions in children with social anxiety disorder.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is highly prevalent in childhood, yet research on cognitive processes in children with SAD is limited. This study examined anticipatory rumination (AR), self-focused attention (SFA), and post-event processing (PEP) in children with SAD and healthy controls (HC), and the impact of possible influencing factors (two conditions: parental support, self-instruction). Based on adult cognitive models, we hypothesized that children with SAD would report more negative and similar positive AR, more internal SFA, similar external focus, more negative and similar positive PEP

Age-related differences in the intrinsic connectivity of the hippocampus and ventral temporal lobe in autistic individuals.

INTRODUCTION: Although memory challenges in autistic individuals have been characterized recently, the functional connectivity of the hippocampus and ventral temporal lobe, two structures important for episodic and semantic memory functions, are poorly understood in autistic individuals. Moreover, age-related differences in the functional connectivity associated with these two memory networks are unrevealed. METHODS: The current study investigated age-related differences in intrinsic connectivity of the hippocampal and ventral temporal lobe (vTL) memory networks in well-matched ASD (n = 73; a

Sexual Racism on Geosocial Networking Applications and Identity Outness Among Sexual Minority Men in the US.

Although the use of geosocial networking (GSN) applications for relationship seeking is prevalent among sexual minority men (SMM), SMM of color may be vulnerable to sexual racism online. Little is known about how sexual racism relates to SMM of color's identity outness, which is integral to the minority stress model and the focus of this study. Eighty SMM, recruited through social media (53.7% racial/ethnic minority), reported their experiences of race-based discrimination on GSN apps and identity outness. Chi-squared and Fisher's tests examined differences in race-based discrimination online

Acquisition of Mandarin long passives by children with developmental language disorder.

This study investigated the comprehension and production of long passives (i.e. bei-constructions with an overt agent) in Mandarin-speaking children with developmental language disorder (DLD). Seventeen preschool children with DLD (1 female; mean age: 61 months old) and 23 typically developing (TD) children (6 females; mean age: 62 months old) participated in a sentence-picture matching task (for comprehension) and an elicited production task. Their nonverbal working memory (NVWM) was measured with the fourth edition of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence. Results showed t

Dual Task Performance in Adolescents With Idiopathic Scoliosis.

Daily life activities commonly include many combinations of dual tasks. Although dual task ability has been studied in healthy young adults, dual task performance in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis (IS) has not been explored. Our objective in this study was to investigate dual task performance in adolescents with IS. We paired 33 adolescents diagnosed with IS and 33 healthy control participants (age range: 11-17 years) and administered to both groups the Stroop Color and Word test as a measure of cognitive ability, and both the Expanded Timed Up and Go (ETUG) test and the Tandem Gait tes
