A new algorithm to determine complete isthmus conduction block after radiofrequency catheter ablation for typical atrial flutter.

The induction of a complete conduction block of the isthmus between inferior vena cava and tricuspid annulus is considered the best predictor for lack of arrhythmia recurrence if radiofrequency catheter ablation for typical atrial flutter is performed. We evaluated a simplified algorithm to determine complete isthmus block that, in our series, had a predictive accuracy of 100% when compared with the gold standard.

A CT-based predictive model for stent-induced vessel damage: application to type B aortic dissection.

OBJECTIVES: The distal stent-induced new entry (distal SINE) is a life-threatening device-related complication after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). However, risk factors for distal SINE are not fully determined, and prediction models are lacking. This study aimed to establish a predictive model for distal SINE based on the preoperative dataset. METHODS: Two hundred and six patients with Stanford type B aortic dissection (TBAD) that experienced TEVAR were involved in this study. Among them, thirty patients developed distal SINE. Pre-TEVAR morphological parameters were measured ba

A deep learning approach to predict differentiation outcomes in hypothalamic-pituitary organoids.

We use three-dimensional culture systems of human pluripotent stem cells for differentiation into pituitary organoids. Three-dimensional culture is inherently characterized by its ability to induce heterogeneous cell populations, making it difficult to maintain constant differentiation efficiency. That is why the culture process involves empirical aspects. In this study, we use deep-learning technology to create a model that can predict from images of organoids whether differentiation is progressing appropriately. Our models using EfficientNetV2-S or Vision Transformer, employing VENUS-coupled

Computational investigation and machine learning prediction of nanoparticle effects on hemodynamics in patient-specific aortic aneurysms.

This study presents a novel computational framework for nanoparticle-assisted drug delivery in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) by characterizing patient-specific hemodynamics under realistic physiological conditions with integrating an artificial neural network (ANN). The model incorporates silver (Ag) nanoparticles within a fully transient, multiphase computational fluid dynamics (CFD) environment, where pulsatile blood flow is imposed using advanced user-defined function. Blood is modeled as a non-Newtonian fluid to capture its shear-dependent rheological behavior, enabling a more accurate r

Clinically-applicable prediction of hospital stay and patient similarity retrieval in paediatric cardiology using machine learning.

Paediatric cardiology presents challenges due to the rarity and complexity of conditions like congenital heart disease. Using retrospective electronic healthcare records from 1,522 Great Ormond Street Hospital cases, we benchmark machine learning models to predict length of stay and retrieve similar patient cases. BioClinical-BERT is used for embedding-based retrieval, while a Random Forest model achieves the best length of stay prediction accuracy (0.88  ± 0.02), outperforming clinicians. The Random Forest model shows mean precision and sensitivity of 0.77  ± 0.03 and 0.76  ± 0.04 during NHS

Prediction of low birth weight using machine learning-based analysis of environmental and maternal risk factors: insights from the Korean CHildren's ENvironmental health study (Ko-CHENS).

Adverse birth outcomes such as low birth weight (LBW) increase the risk of metabolic disorders and hypertension later in life. Although previous studies have examined obstetric factors or environmental exposures in relation to LBW, few have assessed both simultaneously. This study employed cohort data to predict LBW using machine learning (ML) algorithms that integrate maternal characteristics and environmental factors. We analyzed nationwide prospective birth cohort data from the Korean CHildren's ENvironmental health Study (Ko-CHENS). A total of 47 variables were evaluated using nine ML mode
