Survey finds improvement in cognitive biases that drive overtreatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria after a successful antimicrobial stewardship intervention.

BACKGROUND: Lack of guideline knowledge and cognitive biases are barriers that drive overtreatment of catheter-associated asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB). We explored whether providers' knowledge and attitudes toward management of ASB differed before and after a multifaceted guidelines implementation intervention, reported elsewhere. METHODS: We surveyed providers' knowledge of guidelines, cognitive-behavioral constructs, and self-reported familiarity with the relevant Infectious Diseases Society of America guidelines. The survey was administered to providers in the preintervention (n = 169) a

The influence of dysfunctional impulsivity and alexithymia on aggressive behavior of psychiatric patients.

Current approaches in Dutch mental health care institutions towards inpatients' aggression have focused predominantly on environmental factors, such as training the staff in aggression management. However, personality traits might be an important factor in patients' aggression - as shown by incidents in the wards. This study explores the influence of dysfunctional impulsivity and alexithymia on psychiatric patients' aggressive behavior, through self-reports and through involvement in aggressive incidents. Personality traits influencing patients' aggression emphasize the importance of a more di

Watching the clock: keeping time during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences.

In this paper, I analyze how different didactic discourses surrounding pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care portray time in procreative events. I investigate advice regarding procreative experiences offered to women by a variety of ''experts", and offered by experts to each other, examining literature which demonstrates the wide range of didactic approaches to procreative events that are accessible in US culture, from masculinist medical orthodoxy--the dominant perspective--to the naturalist/feminist midwifery model, with self-help literature reflecting the influence of both ends of this spec

Self-care interventions among women with gestational diabetes mellitus in low and middle-income countries: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a transitory form of diabetes occurring in pregnancy with maternal and neonatal health consequences if left untreated. GDM can, in most instances, be managed non-medically through self-care practices, such as eating healthy or engaging in physical activity. This is especially relevant in a global health context with scarce resources. There is no official definition of "GDM self-care"; hence, the content and delivery modes of such interventions may vary greatly. Therefore, this study aimed to landscape GDM self-care interventions in low- and mi

Dual trajectories of capacity management behavior and quality of life in hemodialysis patients: a longitudinal study.

PURPOSE: To examine the individual and dual trajectories of capacity management behavior and quality of life among hemodialysis patients, and to explore factors that may influence these trajectories. METHODS: A longitudinal study was conducted involving 310 hemodialysis patients and their caregivers. Of these, 282 dyads completed follow-up assessments at three and six months. Group-based dual-trajectory modeling and logistic regression were used to analyze the trajectories of capacity management behavior and quality of life, as well as their interrelationships and predictive factors. Quantitative and Qualitative Research on Management Strategies for Dyspnoea in Elderly Patients with Coronary Heart Disease Complicated with Chronic Heart Failure.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the most effective strategies for the management of dyspnoea in elderly patients with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD) complicated with chronic heart failure (CHF). METHODS: The best management plans for dyspnoea were evaluated using quantitative and qualitative research techniques for a total of 120 senior patients with CHD complicated with CHF. A self-made questionnaire on dyspnoea management strategies served as the survey instrument for the cross-sectional quantitative investigation. A phenomenological approach served as the framework for the qualitat

Impact of the Triple D Method on Conflict Management and Workplace Engagement.

BACKGROUND: Although nurses' attitudes toward teamwork and work-related well-being have been explored, evidence is limited on the impact of a team-based method to manage interpersonal conflicts among nursing staff members. LOCAL PROBLEM: Nursing leaders on a 20-bed critical care service unit at a large teaching hospital in the southwestern United States received increasing reports of interpersonal conflicts between direct care staff members. They chose to address this problem by acknowledging the incivility and implementing improvement initiatives. METHODS: This project, which followed a pla

'It Takes a Village': Sociocultural Insights From a Qualitative Study on Strategies for Member Engagement and Participation in SMART Recovery.

INTRODUCTION: SMART (self-management and recovery training) recovery is a mutual-help group that supports and sustains recovery from addiction, including substance use. Meetings are moderated by trained facilitators who manage group dynamics and guide members through a 4-point program. Nonetheless, sociocultural factors can influence group processes, shaping facilitation style and delivery of SMART Recovery. Our study explored facilitation strategies used in Singapore to foster member engagement and retention. METHODS: In-depth qualitative interviews with 18 participants (14 members and four …

Oxygen-Generating Transdermal Nanoplatform Codelivering BRD4 Proteolysis-Targeting Chimera/Verteporfin/CaO2 Synergistically Remodels Immunosuppressive Melanoma Microenvironment to Potentiate Combination Immunotherapy.

Melanoma relapse and metastasis remain formidable clinical challenges, with the inadequate immunogenicity and highly immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (ITME) presenting serious obstacles to current postsurgical immunotherapies. Herein, an oxygen self-supplying core-shell microneedle patch (AV@LDL&CaO2 MNs) featuring multiple innovative anticancer therapies and multimodal immunomodulatory properties is developed to facilitate melanoma postoperative management. Specifically, recombinant low-density lipoprotein nanoparticles (AV@LDL NPs) embedding both the bromodomain containing protein 4
