Canine Parvovirus (CPV) is a very contagious and virulent viral disease affecting domestic dogs all over the world causing high morbidity and mortality in dogs, especially puppies. This study aimed at determining the seropositivity of IgG antibodies against CPV in vaccinated and unvaccinated dogs and to evaluate the immune status of dogs presented in Abeokuta. Polysaccharide storage myopathy (PSSM) has been found in more than 35 different horse breeds through identification of abnormal storage of polysaccharide in muscle biopsies. An epidemiological survey for Theileria annulata infection was conducted in 12 selected villages around Ankara in Central Anatolia, Turkey, during the period April 1990 to January 1993. An 8-year-old, spayed female Chihuahua mixed breed dog was presented for dyspnea and was subsequently mechanically ventilated. Propofol was utilized as part of the anesthetic protocol. The dog developed rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinuria, cardiac arrhythmias, liver enzyme elevation, and methemoglobinemia. Propofol was discontinued and N-acetylcysteine was administered after which the clinical signs resolved.

Species specific diseases, e.g. idiopathic mucinosis of the Chinese Shar Pei are reported by use of 31 clinical cases and 140 biopsy samples. Idiopathic mucinosis is one of the most frequent diseases of this increasing breed in Germany, too. The disease is diagnosed by use of histologic examination of skin biopsies. Therapy is performed by application of corticosteroids and symptomatic treatment.

METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted on corneal ulcers from 112 dogs between May 2021 and June 2024 at a specialized veterinary ophthalmology clinic in Berlin, Germany. Equine neuroaxonal dystrophy/equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy (eNAD/EDM) is an inherited neurodegenerative disease associated with vitamin E deficiency in the first year of life. It is the second most common cause of spinal ataxia in horses euthanized for neurologic disease. Equine NAD/EDM is characterized by neurologic signs including a symmetric proprioceptive ataxia (> grade 2/5) and a wide-base stance at rest. There are currently no antemortem tests for eNAD/EDM in any breed. Conclusive diagnosis requires postmortem histologic evaluation of the brainstem and spinal cord at necropsy.

BACKGROUND: A high perinatal mortality rate in the Stabyhoun breed prompted one of the Dutch breeding organizations to start an investigation. Preductal segmental tubular aortic hypoplasia is an extremely rarely documented congenital vascular anomaly in dogs, and it is suspected to be the result of constriction of ectopic ductal tissue in the aortic wall at birth.
METHODS: Over a period of 18 months, Stabyhoun puppies that were stillborn, died or were euthanized before 3 weeks of age were submitted to post-mortem examination at the reporting institution. Pathologic findings were documented.
