OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effect of radiation therapy (XRT) on the growth of Candida and Cryptococcus.
METHODS: (I) In vitro study: suspensions of Candida and Cryptococcus were irradiated by 0-20 Gy, and colony forming units (CFUs) were counted after 2 and 11 days. (II) In vivo study: (A) The XRT effect-Balb/c mice were injected with Candida or Cryptococcus and irradiated by 5 or 10 Gy. INTRODUCTION: Aortitis consists in aortic wall inflammation from infectious or non infectious cause. It may lead to aortic aneurysm with a risk of rupture, which is life-threatening and may justify surgical procedures. The cause of the aortitis is sometimes obscure.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 55 years old woman who developed acute aortitis of the descending aorta after G-CSF (granulocyte-colony stimulating factor) injections for blood stem cells graft. No cause was found to the aortitis, the evolution was favorable after corticosteroid treatment, without aneurysm at six months.

Different medicinal plants: Euphobia hirta (Eh); Citrus aurantifolia (Ca), Cassia occidentalis (Co), and Cassia eucalyptus (Ce), which are claimed by the Nupes of Bida in Niger State of Nigeria to be effective in the treatment of typhoid fever were collected. Histopathological study of endoscopic gastric mucosa obtained from 251 patients with acid peptic diseases were studied in relation to the degrees of inflammation and the degree of H. Pylori density. Haematoxylin-Eosin and modified Giemsa stains were used. Gastritis grading was done according to Warren and Marshall with slight modification and H. Pylori grading according to our criteria. In this study no definite relationship could be observed between histological grading of chronic gastritis with that of H. Pylori density.

Over a 22-month period, sequential nasal and skin swabs were obtained from 52 healthy captive koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) from the Sydney region. Cryptococcus neoformans was isolated in 17 koalas from 64 of 262 (24%) nasal swabs and from nine of 262 (3%) skin swabs. Copper(II)2(3,5-diisopropylsalicylate)4 [Cu(II)2(3,5-DIPS)4] is a synthetic copper complex with a variety of effects, including radiation recovery, anti-inflammatory, and accelerated wound healing activities. When C57BL/6 mice were injected subcutaneously with 80 mumol/kg Cu(II)2(3,5-DIPS)4 their spleens significantly enlarged.
