Among the etiologies of pyogenic liver abscess (PLA), bacterial spread from the biliary tract or portal flow is the major cause, while the onset of PLA due to arterial bacterial transmission is rare. OBJECTIVE: To predict the possibility of epidemic outbreak of meningitis by testing Neissria Meningitides in a healthy population in the Mianzhu post-earthquake residential area.
METHODS: A simple random sampling strategy was adopted to collect 887 throat swabs from a healthy population in the Mainzhu post-earthquake residential area. The TaqMan assay were performed to detect Neissria Meningitides.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of vulvar pain and pain related to sexual intercourse among women attending a general medical clinic in Accra, Ghana.
STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey was performed.
RESULTS: Forty-six women (22.8%) reported the presence of vulvar pain at the time of the study. There was significant association between the presence of vulvar pain and dissatisfaction with the quality of sexual activity (p < 0.001). The purpose of this work was to assess the in vitro antibacterial effectiveness of three dentifrices containing antimicrobial agents and to test the in vivo anti plaque and anti gingivitis effect of a toothpaste containing triclosan (CAOLA). The in vitro tests showed a marked antibacterial effect of both triclosan and chlorhexidine containing dentifrices. Failure of intensive chemotherapy to control schistosomiasis in a highly endemic area of Northeast Brazil led to the hypothesis that sociodemographic and/or behavioral variables could be involved in the persistent transmission.
