Gastric microbiota-mediated immune remodelling in gastric cancer.

Increasing evidence indicates that the gastric microbiota plays crucial roles in regulating the tumour microenvironment (TME), influencing gastric tumourigenesis and progression. Several bacteria, including Streptococcus, Lactobacillus and Bacteroides, have shown robust immunomodulatory effects on TME. In this review, we summarise current understanding of the crosstalk between the gastric microbiota and TME in gastric cancer (GC). Functional alterations of the gastric microbiota from healthy mucosa to malignancy are delineated, with emphasis on the impacts of bacteria on different immune cell …

Purple Potato and Its Polyphenols Modulate Cecal Fermentation in Rats.

This study investigated the effects of the purple potato (PP) cultivar (cv.) 'Shadow-Queen,' rich in polyphenols and resistant starch (RS), … e abundances of the phyla Firmicutes or Bacteroidetes, respectively. Unclassified Clostridiales and Lactobacillus were more abundant in the PP than in the CON group. Compared to the other three, cecal succinate and immunoglobulin A (IgA) levels were elevated in the PP group. Compared to the CON group, cecal acetate, n-butyrate, and total short-chain fatty acid …

Propyl gallate mitigates diabetic liver injury via suppressing SLC7A11/GPX4-mediated hepatic ferroptosis and modulating gut-liver axis.

Hepatic glycolipid metabolic dysregulation is a hallmark of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), with emerging evidence implicating ferroptosis … and reshaping gut microbial composition, marked by increased abundance of beneficial genera such as Lactobacillus and Ruminococcus, known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant roles. Collectively, these findings suggest that PG ameliorates diabetic liver injury via dual mechanisms: (1) direct inhibition of SLC7A11/GPX4-dependent ferroptosis and (2) indire …

CO2-modified atmosphere improves the flavor quality of low-salt Xuecai by regulating microbial communities and metabolic functions.

Low-salt pickled vegetables are often limited by their poor flavor and the accumulation of biogenic amines (BAs). In the present study, the … CMA for low-salt Xuecai production inhibited halophilic and spoilage microorganisms while enriching Lactobacillus-related populations. Metabolic pathway analysis revealed that the expression levels of the tricarboxylic acid cycle, amino acid metabolism, and genes encoding enzymes (i.e., amino acid decarboxylases, amine deiminases, and amine synthases) related t …

The potential of novel gut microbiota supplement in mitigating gut inflammation, alleviating oxidative stress linked to aging, and improving cognitive function in aged mice.

BACKGROUND: Aging is a physiological process that impacts multiple systems of organs. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia in the elderly, and it is a major problem in aging societies. The development of AD is linked to an accumulation of amyloid beta and Tau proteins, which impair cognition and cause memory loss. PURPOSE: We studied whether probiotics strains could protect and how effectively probiotics might delay age-related changes. METHODS: Two probiotics, Lactobacillus paracasei MSMC39-1 and Bifidobacterium animalis MSMC83 strain, were administered orally to mic…
