What is the relationship between health-related quality of life among scoliosis patients and their caregiver burden? A cross-sectional study in China.

BACKGROUND: Caregivers play a vital role in the recovery of scoliosis patients, but limited studies evaluate the caregivers' HRQoL and burden in health care. This study aimed to explore the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of scoliosis patients and their caregivers, and identify the factors influencing caregiver burden in Eastern China. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted from August 2018 to January 2019 at the Shandong Provincial Hospital, Jinan, China. The HRQoL of scoliosis patients was measured by the Scoliosis Research Society-22r (SRS-22r), five-level EQ-5D (EQ-5D-5L

The Impact of the Danish National Smoking Ban From 2007 on the Incidence of Eight Smoking-related Diseases: A Nationwide Register-based Interrupted Time Series Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Previous research has documented the effect of comprehensive smoking bans on preventing various adverse health outcomes in the years post-ban. In 2007, Denmark implemented a national smoking ban that prohibited indoor smoking in workplaces and public settings, although only partial restrictions applied in specific premises such as small bars, one-person offices, and in psychiatric units. We tested the hypothesis that the implementation of the national smoking ban was associated with a decrease in incidence of smoking-related morbidity in the Danish population compared to the pre-ba

Characteristics and efficacy of physical activity interventions to improve cardiometabolic and psychosocial outcomes in people living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa: a protocol for a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has led to an increased lifespan for people living with HIV (PWH). This increased lifespan, coupled with the effects of HIV and adverse effects of ART have resulted in an increasing burden of cardiometabolic disease (CMD) among PWH. Physical activity (PA) has been proposed as an effective strategy to reduce the risk of developing cardiometabolic disease and other health complications in PWH. The aim of this paper is to review the characteristics and efficacy of PA interventions to improve cardiometabolic and psychosocial outcomes among PWH in sub-Sahara

Epidemiological analysis and emergency nursing care of oral and craniomaxillofacial trauma: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: We conducted a literature review on the epidemiology and emergency nursing care of oral and craniomaxillofacial trauma in order to facilitate rescue and care planning. Traumatic accidents alter oral and craniomaxillofacial anatomy and physiology, resulting in craniomaxillofacial scars and deformities, temporomandibular disorders, and oromandibular dysfunction. Such trauma affects speech, chewing, and eating; results in long hospitalization and burdensome healthcare expenses; and in severe cases may lead to potentially life-threatening complications such as respiratory

Worry less about the algorithm, more about the sequence of events.

Background: Many algorithms exist for learning network structure and parameters from data. Some of these algorithms include Grow Shrink, Incremental Association Markov Blanket, IAMB, Fast IAMB, and Interleaved IAMB, Hill Climbing, Restricted Maximization and Maximum-Minimum Hill Climbing. These algorithms optimize the fit to the data, while ignoring the order of occurrences of the variables in the network structure. Objective: This paper examines if sequence information (i.e., one variable occurs before another) can make algorithms for learning directed acyclical graph networks more accurate.

Incidence, prevalence, and occurrence rate of infection among adults hospitalized after traumatic brain injury: study protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Infection occurs commonly among patients hospitalized after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and has been associated with increased intensive care unit and hospital lengths of stay and an elevated risk of poor neurological outcome and mortality. However, as many relevant published studies to date have varied in the type and severity of TBI among included patients as well as in their design (randomized versus non-randomized), risk of bias, and setting (hospital ward versus intensive care unit), their reported estimates of infection occurrence vary considerably. Thus, the purpose of this

Preferences for advance care planning services among patients with recurrent stroke: a discrete choice experiment.

BACKGROUND: Stroke remains a major chronic condition in China, characterized by high incidence, frequent recurrence, and substantial disability. These challenges not only affect patients’ quality of life but also place a heavy burden on families and the healthcare system. Advance care planning provides a structured approach to help patients make informed decisions about their future medical care. However, little is known about how patients with recurrent stroke perceive and prioritize advance care planning services. Gaining insight into their needs and preferences is essential for designing in

Pregnant women's perceived understanding and antenatal information needs regarding newborn screening for inherited metabolic diseases in southwestern China: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Newborn screening (NBS) can reduce morbidity from some inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) through early detection and timely treatment. Clear antenatal communication can support informed participation and timely follow-up by helping parents understand the purpose and pathway of screening. Evidence on pregnant women's perceived understanding, attitudes, antenatal information engagement, and screening- and follow-up-related intentions regarding newborn IMD screening in China remains limited. This study described these four domains and examined their associations with sociodemographi
