Rethinking health in later life: A six-dimensional model based on the European SHARE survey.

The accelerating global aging population requires updated conceptualizations and measurements of health in later life. While traditionally framed around physical, mental, and social dimensions, recent research suggests that additional dimensions may form part of the broader health construct in older adults. However, empirical validation of such multidimensional health constructs using population-based data remains limited. We analyzed data from 46,317 participants aged 50-104 years (M = 71.33, SD = 9.34; 42.6 % men, 57.4 % women) from Wave 8 of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Eu

Promoting postoperative recovery in older adult surgical patients: a randomized controlled trial of MDT-based perioperative comprehensive nutritional management model.

BACKGROUND: Traditional perioperative care is hospital-centric, whereas the efficacy of multidisciplinary team (MDT)-based comprehensive nutrition management remains debated. This study examines how this model impacts postoperative complications and functional recovery in older adults. METHODS: A single-center superiority randomized controlled trial (RCT; April 2023-March 2024) randomized 120 older adults (≥65y) undergoing major abdominal surgery (grades 3-4) into intervention (n = 60) and control (n = 60) groups, excluding those with severe organ dysfunction or poor compliance. The MDT-based

When social media becomes a mirror: A serial mediation path from social appearance anxiety to social media fatigue among young adults.

In today's visually driven digital culture, social media platforms constitute a central context for identity development and self-presentation, particularly among young adults. Grounded in Social Comparison Theory and Impression Management Theory, this study proposes a process-oriented model explaining how social appearance anxiety is associated with social media fatigue through sequential psychological mechanisms. Specifically, the study examined the serial mediating roles of appearance-related social media consciousness and social media false self-presentation in the relationship between soc

Cultural fiction as predictive-affective simulation: a neurocognitive model of male emotional regulation and gender violence prevention.

This conceptual article develops an integrative framework connecting the Tie-Up Theory of affective receptivity with predictive processing models of brain function, in order to advance a neurocognitive understanding of the emotional mechanisms underlying gender-based violence and its prevention. Departing from the observation that feminicide cannot be explained solely through sociological or ideological variables, the paper focuses on its emotional and predictive precursors, particularly the inability to tolerate frustration, rejection, or loss without attempting to restore control. Drawing on

The efficacy of whole-course nursing on malignant bone and soft tumors of lower limbs: A randomized study.

Patients with malignant bone and soft tissue tumors of the lower limbs frequently encounter substantial postoperative pain, delayed functional recovery, and adverse psychological reactions. Conventional nursing care may not adequately address these complex needs during the perioperative period. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a comprehensive whole-course nursing model - encompassing preoperative education, perioperative care, postoperative rehabilitation, and psychological support - in enhancing clinical outcomes for patients undergoing limb salvage surgery. In this randomized contr

Effect of microenvironment theory-based nursing on prognosis in intensive care unit patients with postoperative severe acute pancreatitis.

BACKGROUND: Patients with postoperative severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) in the intensive care unit (ICU) face complex challenges arising from physiological and microenvironmental imbalances, psychological stress, and the interaction of multiple environmental factors. Traditional nursing models inadequately address this integrated microenvironment, highlighting the need for microenvironment theory-based nursing interventions to optimize outcomes. AIM: To evaluate the impact of a microenvironment theory-based nursing intervention model on the prognosis of patients with postoperative SAP in the

When Social Hierarchy, Power, and Collective Autonomy Motivate Social Movement and Counter-Movement Mobilization Among Disadvantaged and Advantaged Groups.

What happens when disadvantaged group members try to gain power in an attempt to protect their collective autonomy? The present integrative review outlines dynamic social processes and conditions under which efforts to restrict a group's collective autonomy motivate social movement mobilization among disadvantaged groups to challenge social hierarchies that limit their power. This, in turn, threatens advantaged groups' perceptions of their access to power and, by extension, their sense of collective autonomy, motivating them to reaffirm the existing social hierarchy by mobilizing counter-movem

Research on the online service mechanism of internet hospital in infectious disease prevention and control.

Infectious diseases can sometimes lead to pandemics, often transmitted through public and social gatherings, including in-person hospital visits. Consequently, there is an urgent need for innovative approaches to prevent their spread. Taking COVID-19 as an example, we have explored a remote, contactless hospital online model that offers the public online medical consultations, professional psychological counseling, and chronic disease management consultations, thereby mitigating the risk of new transmissions resulting from hospital visits. This model was implemented, validated, and practiced a

Validation of the Grief Support in Healthcare Scale among frontline nursing professionals working in COVID-19 inpatient wards in Korea.

INTRODUCTION: During the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers (HCWs) have been exposed to higher levels of anxiety and psychological stress than the general population. Nurses who cared for COVID patients could not avoid repeated mourning as they witnessed the deaths of their patients. Therefore, tools are needed to evaluate whether there is adequate support for the grieving process of HCWs in both qualitative and quantitative manners. METHODS: Data from 229 nurses who witnessed the deaths of COVID-19 inpatients were analyzed using an online survey of nurses working in three tertiary hospita

Longitudinal assessment of the common sense model before and during the COVID-19 pandemic: A large coeliac disease cohort study.

OBJECTIVE: Psychosocial factors likely play a substantial role in the well-being of those living with coeliac disease, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, little research has examined well-being in this cohort using an integrated socio-cognitive model. This study had two aims: (1) Examine changes in gastrointestinal symptoms, psychosocial factors, and well-being outcomes (i.e., psychological distress, quality of life [QoL]) associated with the pandemic, (2) Examine the interrelationship of these variables across timepoints using the Common Sense Model (CSM). METHODS: 1697 adults

Toward an Ecological Understanding of Intimate Partner Sexual Violence.

Intimate partner sexual violence (IPSV) is a common yet hidden form of violence against women. It encompasses a range of behaviors, including rape and sexual assault, and also more subtle behaviors such as the use of coercion and blackmail to obtain sex. It is typically described as an aspect of intimate partner violence, yet, although it often co-occurs with physical or psychological abuse, the contextual factors and nuances of sexual violence perpetrated by an intimate partner are likely to be very different. IPSV also differs greatly from sexual assault perpetrated by a stranger or other kn

Importance of parental conceptual model of illness in severe recurrent abdominal pain.

OBJECTIVES: Recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) affects up to 15% of children. A biopsychosocial approach to the treatment of children with RAP has been proposed as an alternative to the traditional medical model. The aim of this study was to examine whether the parental conceptual model of illness is a factor in the long-term outcome of children with severe RAP. METHODS: The study was undertaken in 2 parts: 1) a review of the medical and psychiatric records (including Child Behavior Checklist [CBCL]) of all children with RAP of sufficient severity to necessitate hospitalization during a 5-year pe

Caregiver Burden Mediates the Association Between Patient Self-Care Behaviors and Psychological Distress in Diabetic Foot Ulcer Care.

BACKGROUND: Home-based wound care is an important care model for patients with diabetic foot ulcers. In this setting, family caregivers often undertake daily supervision, wound observation, treatment coordination, and care-related decision-making. However, the relationship between patient self-care behaviors and caregiver psychological outcomes remains insufficiently understood. AIM: To examine the associations among patient self-care behaviors, caregiver burden, and caregiver psychological distress, and to explore whether caregiver burden mediated the relationship between patient self-care b
