AIM: Lateral orbitotomy is a well-known approach for lesions of the lateral orbital cone. It is still appropriate for laterally situated tumors although contemporary cranial base approaches were defined and developed within the last decades.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Here we report 10 orbital lesions operated with lateral orbitotomy, nine of which were extraconal. Cholesterol granuloma, arachnoid cyst, pleomorphic adenoma, malign epithelial tumor, dermoid cyst, inflammatory granuloma and cavernoma were the pathologies encountered.

We report a case of traumatic optic neuropathy accompanying a grease gun injury to the orbit. A 48-year-old man with a grease gun injury visited our clinic with decreased visual acuity, proptosis and limited extraocular movement (EOM). Bilateral microphthalmos with cyst was diagnosed in a 4-month-old female term infant who presented with bilateral lower eyelid cysts and the right eye displaced beneath the upper eyelid. Imaging of the orbits revealed bilateral microphthalmic globes with large orbital cysts. Treatment consisted of bilateral cyst removal and free fat grafts for volume replacement, which yielded good cosmetic results with reduction of right globe displacement.
