OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical characteristics and management strategies of bilateral acoustic neuromas.
METHODS: The data of 7 patients with bilateral acoustic neuromas collected between 1990 to 1998 were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS: Altogether 122 patients with acoustic tumors were treated from 1990 to 1998, in which 7 cases (5.8%, 6 male and 1 female) had bilateral acoustic neuromas. PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of recession with Y-splitting of the superior rectus muscle (SR) on correction of dissociated vertical deviation (DVD).
METHODS: Twelve consecutive patients with manifest DVD greater than 10 prism diopters (PD) received 7-mm SR recession with Y-splitting, with concurrent treatment of any horizontal deviation. Preoperative and postoperative evaluation of ductions and versions, ocular deviation and pattern was done. A successful outcome was considered as 0 to 6 prism diopters (PD) of vertical and 0 to 10 PD of horizontal deviation.

PURPOSE: We sought to identify and evaluate treatment of patients who switched fixation to the poorer-seeing eye and complained of persistent diplopia 6 to 12 months after full macular translocation surgery (MT360) and extraocular muscle surgery.

A 36-year-old male had been constantly wearing a patch to avoid diplopia since an operation on the right parietal area of the brain. Postsurgical visual field evaluation indicated a complete bilateral left hemianopia with macular splitting. The patient had a constant alternating comitant exotropia with no suppression.
