Nitrergic nerve fibres of intrinsic and extrinsic origin constitute an important component of the autonomic innervation in the human eye. The intrinsic source of nitrergic nerves are the ganglion cells in choroid and ciliary muscle. PURPOSE: To report the occurrence of unilateral iris neovascularization in children secondary to medulloepithelioma.
METHODS: Presenting features and the clinical course of patients confirmed to have medulloepithelioma were reviewed.

PURPOSE: To describe a 79-year-old Caucasian male with a history of hypotony maculopathy for 7 years after cataract extraction with subsequent recovery of normal intraocular pressure and improvement of visual acuity.
METHODS: Interventional case report. The patient developed an intraocular pressure ranging from 0 to 5 mm Hg after cataract surgery. He developed hypotony maculopathy, and the visual acuity declined to 20/200. On evaluation 7 years later, a superior cyclodialysis cleft was detected and treated with the argon laser.

In cultured human ciliary muscle cells we previously showed that histamine, via an H1 receptor, stimulates the production of inositol phosphates and mobilization of intracellular calcium. We further investigated in this study whether histamine would cause contraction of human ciliary muscle cells. PURPOSE: Chloride efflux plays an important role in aqueous humor production. Chloride currents have been described in bovine non-pigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE), in transformed cultured human NPE, and in bovine volume-activated chloride channels described in the latter. It is the basolateral membranes of the NPE of ocular ciliary processes that comprise the exit pathway for the process of aqueous secretion performed by the double syncytial layer of ciliary epithelium, however. Therefore, we studied both cell-attached, and, excised, inside-out patches from basolateral membranes of the NPE.

We evaluated retrospectively the results of 39 eyes in which the implantation of a lens in the capsular bag was not possible. Due to the loss of capsule a transsclerally sulcus sutured lens (TSSL) was implanted in 9 eyes. In 30 eyes a ciliary sulcus supported lens (SSL) could be implanted using residual capsule support. Lens implantation in the ciliary sulcus resulted in improved vision in 33/39 eyes (7/9 TSSLs, 26/30 SSLs).
