A bacterium with an exceptional ability to hydrolyse fenamiphos and its toxic oxidation products fenamiphos sulfoxide and fenamiphos sulfone, all possessing POC bond was isolated from soil. Based on 16S rRNA gene determination, this bacterium was putatively identified as Microbacterium esteraromaticum. Sixteen microbial isolates capable of growing on Dursban as a secondary substrate were isolated from three soil and sewage water samples collected from different localities polluted with pesticides. Six developed isolates only were capable of biodegrading Dursban and utilizing it as only sole source of carbon, energy and phosphorus. We studied the profile of permethrin resistance in populations of head lice infesting children 6-12 yr old in schools and their homes in and around Buenos Aires, Argentina. Five permethrin-resistant populations with different levels of resistance were collected: Hogar Loyola (HL), Republica de Turquia (RT), Hogar Mitre (HM), Guardia de Honor (GH), and Ricardo Guiraldes (RG). This work presents the content of organochlorine (OCs) pesticides in sediments of both, agricultural drains from the Irrigation District 076, El Carrizo, Sinaloa, and of the adjacent coastal lagoon ecosystem of Agiabampo-Bacorehuis-Jitzamuri, located in northwest Mexico.
