Fractional CO2 laser treatment as adjunctive therapy to topical steroids for managing vulvar lichen sclerosus.

OBJECTIVES: Uncontrolled vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) is often associated with distressful symptoms of genital itch, irritation, and pain and can lead to a pathological process including anatomical changes, scarring, and an elevated risk of cancer in the genital area. First-line topical corticosteroid as monotherapy is frequently not adequate to fully suppress disease activity and control symptoms. This study evaluated the efficacy of fractional CO2 laser treatments as adjunctive therapy where recalcitrant VLS had been improved, but not adequately controlled, with topical corticosteroid treat

Ageing, Neurodegeneration and the Endocannabinoid System.

Numerous studies carried out in the last 30-40 years have strongly demonstrated that the endocannabinoid system exerts important modulatory functions in the central nervous system (CNS). These neuromodulatory functions encompass the whole life of animals, with specific activities during neurodevelopment (prenatal, postnatal and adolescent periods), adulthood and possibly senescence too. However, this is the life stage less investigated in relation with the endocannabinoid system to date. In the aged brain, the activity of this system appears to be altered, which contributes to subtle impairmen

Feasibility, acceptability, and behavioral outcomes of a multimodal intervention for prostate cancer patients: Experience from the MARTINI lifestyle program.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most frequently diagnosed malignant tumor in men. The potential benefit of a healthy lifestyle contrasts sharply with the observed poor adherence to current international lifestyle guidelines. Thus, well-designed sustainable interventions of aftercare that can be translated into routine practice are highly recommended. The present pilot study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a multimodal lifestyle intervention program in PCa patients after radical prostatectomy (RP). METHODS: In a single-arm study, carried out at the Martini-Klini

Mental and physical training with meditation and aerobic exercise improved mental health and well-being in teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Teachers face significant stressors in relation to their work, placing them at increased risk for burnout and attrition. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about additional challenges, resulting in an even greater burden. Thus, strategies for reducing stress that can be delivered virtually are likely to benefit this population. Mental and Physical (MAP) Training combines meditation with aerobic exercise and has resulted in positive mental and physical health outcomes in both clinical and subclinical populations. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility and potential effective

Uneven acute non-alcoholic fatty change of the liver after percutaneous transhepatic portal vein embolization in a patient with hilar cholangiocarcinoma - a case report.

BACKGROUND: Portal vein embolization is essential for patients with biliary cancer who undergo extended hepatectomy to induce hypertrophy of the future remnant liver. Over 830 patients have undergone the portal vein embolization at our institution since 1990. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is an entity of hepatic disease characterized by fat deposition in hepatocytes. It has a higher prevalence among persons with morbid obesity, type 2 diabetes, and hyperlipidemia. Neither the mechanism of hepatic hypertrophy after portal vein embolization nor the pathophysiology of non-alcoholic fatty live

Lacticaseibacillus paracasei HP7 Attenuates Helicobacter pylori Activity and Improves Upper Gastrointestinal Symptoms: A Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Clinical Trial.

Helicobacter pylori remains a major cause of chronic gastritis and dyspeptic symptoms, and the effectiveness of standard eradication therapy continues to decline with increasing antibiotic resistance. Lacticaseibacillus paracasei HP7 has shown inhibitory and anti-inflammatory effects on H. pylori in preclinical studies. This study investigated whether 8-week oral HP7 supplementation could improve H. pylori-related outcomes in adults with confirmed infection. Seventy-eight adults with positive 13C-urea breath test (13C-UBT) results and gastric discomfort were randomized to receive low-dose HP7

Development of the gut microbiota during early life in premature and term infants.

BACKGROUND: The gastrointestinal (GI) microbiota has been linked to health consequences throughout life, from early life illnesses (e.g. sepsis and necrotising enterocolitis) to lifelong chronic conditions such as obesity and inflammatory bowel disease. It has also been observed that events in early life can lead to shifts in the microbiota, with some of these changes having been documented to persist into adulthood. A particularly extreme example of a divergent early GI microbiota occurs in premature neonates, who display a very different GI community to term infants. Certain characteristic p
