Impact of managers' personal determinants in notifying workplace hazards.

Notification about work hazards is a legal requirement in advanced industrial countries, but workers have claimed, that in many cases, they do not receive enough information regarding risks, exposure, and medical problems. The recent professional literature on the subject has explored the ways in which notification is delivered without sufficiently considering the psychological incentives and barriers that may affect managers in transmitting risk information. The present study aimed at examining managers' personal determinants and notification of work hazards in a sample of 106 managers and 46

Long-Term Management: Modern Measures to Prevent Readmission in Patients with Hepatic Encephalopathy.

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a frequent indication for hospitalization and represents a common manifestation of portal hypertension and decompensated liver disease that contributes to hospital readmissions. Multiple new techniques are being evaluated to assist in preventing readmissions in these high-risk patients. Techniques to improve medication adherence are paramount. The use of telemedicine and on-demand patient assessment is likely to diminish hospitalizations for HE. Wearable technology has the potential to assist in HE diagnosis and prevent HE progression, with an anticipated diminut

Airway management in a patient with nuchal, interspinous, and flavum ligament rupture by a sickle: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Penetrating neck injury is an important trauma subset but is relatively rare, especially when involving the posterior cervical column. Rupture of the neck restraints, including the interspinous and flavum ligaments, can create serious cervical instability that requires special consideration when managing the airway. However, no detailed information regarding airway management in patients with profound posterior neck muscle laceration and direct cervical ligament disruption by an edged weapon is yet available in the literature. CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old Japanese man attempte

Current management of diabetes mellitus and future directions in care.

The last 90 years have seen considerable advances in the management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Prof MacLean of Guy's Hospital wrote in the Postgraduate Medical Journal in 1926 about the numerous challenges that faced patients and their healthcare professionals in delivering safe and effective diabetes care at that time. The discovery of insulin in 1922 heralded a new age in enabling long-term glycaemic control, which reduced morbidity and mortality. Thirty years later, the first oral agents for diabetes, the biguanides and sulfonylureas, appeared and freed type 2 patients from having to in

When breastfeeding meets work: Impact of daily action regulation at the breastfeeding-work interface among breastfeeding working mothers.

Work and breastfeeding responsibilities can often interfere with each other for breastfeeding working mothers who pump breast milk at work. While prior research has explored how contextual social support and organizational policies help these mothers manage work-breastfeeding challenges, the active self-initiated strategies breastfeeding working mothers can use to navigate these roles have been largely overlooked. This study addresses a critical gap in how breastfeeding working mothers can proactively regulate their actions to achieve desirable outcomes. From an action regulation perspective,

Assessing disability in multiple sclerosis: concordance between patient-recorded and neurologist-recorded EDSS ratings in a 10-year single-center experience.

BACKGROUND: The Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) is the standard tool for assessing disability in multiple sclerosis (MS). While traditionally conducted by clinicians, patientreported versions have emerged as viable alternatives for remote monitoring. However, the concordance between self-reported and neurologist-assessed EDSS scores remains crucial for clinical utility. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the agreement between patient-reported and neurologist-assessed EDSS scores in a large cohort of MS patients and explore the applicability of self-reported EDSS in routine practice. METHODS: Thi
