A basic heme peroxidase has been isolated from cucumber (Cucumis sativus) peelings and characterized through electronic and (1)H NMR spectra from pH 3 to 11. STUDY DESIGN: In this study sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, zinc, and magnesium ion concentration was analyzed in stimulated whole saliva in 22 children with Down syndrome aged 6 to 10 years. These children were compared with 21 healthy children of the same age. Stimulated saliva was collected by chewing a piece of parafilm for 10 minutes. A new series of 3-substituted (methyl, ethyl or phenyl)-3H-quinazolin-4-one derivatives (4a-l) were synthesized through condensation reaction of their potassium salts (3a-l) with methyl, ethyl and phenylisocyanate. The newly synthesized derivatives (4a-l) were evaluated for anticonvulsant activity. BACKGROUND: Sialolithiasis is a common disease of salivary glands. The etiology of these calculi is little known and their exact mechanism of formation is unknown.

The mixture of psychotropic drugs aminazine, barbamylum and nitrazepam using ultraviolet (UV) spectrophotometric method was researched. As the solvent, most acceptable for identification and differentiation of these preparation was found 0.1N solution of sulphuric acid. By measuring the optical density of the solutions in different concentration the calibration diagrams for all preparations were made. Using UV-vis spectrometrical measurements, equilibrium constants for NO transfer between S-nitroso-N-acetyl-penicillamine (SNAP) and different thiols as well as kinetic data for NO transfer from S-nitroso bovine serum albumin (BSANO) to thiols have been obtained.
