BACKGROUND: Various surgical approaches and fixation methods are available for distal biceps tendon repair. Although all-suture anchors offer theoretical advantages and are widely used in orthopedic surgery, clinical data on their use in distal biceps tendon repairs remain limited. This study aims to evaluate the clinical and functional outcomes of distal biceps tendon repair using two all-suture anchors via a single-incision approach. We hypothesized that this technique would result in effective restoration of supination strength, excellent patient-reported outcomes, and a low rerupture rate.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is the dominant clinical modality for the treatment of anterior cruciate ligament injuries. The success of ACLR is largely dependent on tendon-bone healing, and stem cell biotherapies are often used to facilitate this process. Histone lactylation modifications are involved in the regulation of various diseases. Lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) has been shown to play an important role in exosomes.
AIM: To explore the regulation of tendon-bone healing after ACLR by LDHA in exosomes derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSC-E

The glenoid labrum contributes to shoulder stability by increasing the glenoid surface and providing attachments for the shoulder capsule and various ligaments and tendons. Overhead arm activities, especially throwing, can stress the shoulder excessively and cause labral injury. Symptoms include poorly localized pain, exacerbated by overhead and behind-the-back motions, and popping, catching, or grinding. Imaging includes AP, outlet, and axillary radiographs, but CT arthrogram or MR arthrogram is also recommended. Fractures and dislocations should be referred. In other labral injuries, 2 to 4

We describe a medial midline portal between the tendons of extensor hallucis longus and tibialis anterior for arthroscopy of the ankle. We dissected 20 cadaver specimens to compare the risk of neurovascular injury using this approach with that of using standard arthroscopic portals. Compared with the anterocentral portal, the medial midline was a mean of 11.2 mm further from the nearest branch of the superficial peroneal nerve and 10.3 mm further from the dorsalis pedis artery. This portal allows good access to the joint surface and intra-articular structures and has a lower risk of injury to

Background: A stab incision and blunt dissection prior to wire placement are believed to decrease the risk of injury to underlying structures during percutaneous pinning of distal radius fractures (DRF). However, only a few studies have compared stab incision and blunt dissection to direct wire placement. The aim of this cadaveric study is to analyse the structures at risk during percutaneous pinning of DRF and compare the two methods of wire placement. Methods: A total of 10 cadavers (20 upper limbs) were divided into two groups of five each. Five 2.0 mm Kirschner (K)-wires were inserted into

Partial-thickness rotator cuff tears present partial disruption of tendon fibers with no communication between the subacromial bursa and the glenohumeral joint. The clinical presentation is surprisingly variable, ranging from mild discomfort to decreased throwing speed, chronic pain, and shoulder inability. The first approach to partial-thickness rotator cuff tears is usually conservative, but the hypovascularity of the critical zone and mechanical factors often result in poor spontaneous tendon healing. Surgical options include arthroscopic cuff "debridement" or "repair," performed arthroscop

Although often perceived as a leisurely activity, golf can be a demanding sport, which can result in injury, usually from overuse and sometimes from poor technique. The shoulder is a commonly affected site, with the lead shoulder, or the left shoulder in the right-handed golfer, particularly vulnerable to injury. A thorough understanding of the biomechanics of the golf swing is helpful in diagnosing and managing these injuries. Common shoulder problems affecting golfers include subacromial impingement, acromioclavicular arthrosis, rotator cuff tear, glenohumeral instability, and glenohumeral a

Hand injuries have occurred due to inflation of an air bag security system during a high velocity car accident. A driver and a passenger retained by three-point lap-shoulder belts crashed on the central railing of a motorway during their vehicle lost of control due to aquaplaning. The air bags inflated during the collision. The driver presented a superficial second degree burn with a 12 cm long blister on the radial side of the hand and distal forearm. The passenger suffered an intra-articular palmar avulsion fracture of the middle phalanx (PIP joint) and a mallet finger of the left fifth digi

Fifty-two knees were examined using real-time high-definition ultrasonography with a 7.5 MHz probe. The extra-articular structures were easily visualized and diagnosis of patellar tendon lesions and Baker's cysts formulated. While the meniscal cartilages were shown as a homogeneous triangular structure between the femoral condyle and the tibial plateau, no lesions were detected. Deeper intra-articular structures, such as the cruciate ligaments, were not shown by the scan, thus their evaluation was not possible. Given its low cost, wide availability, non-invasiveness and patients' acceptability

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of SLAP and biceps reflection pulley lesions. The hypothesis was that these lesions do not occur concomitantly and they have a different etiology.
METHODS: We prospectively analyzed 3,395 shoulder arthroscopies that were independently performed by 2 surgeons between 2004 and 2008 regarding the prevalence of SLAP and biceps pulley lesions. Intraoperative findings were correlated with patient history and clinical examination. Exclusion criteria were type I SLAP lesions, full-thickness rotator cuff tears, and a history of shoulder

An appropriate physiotherapeutic treatment program complements an optimal operative result. In the instance of SLAP lesions, a differentiated therapy is only possible on consultation with the surgeon. A detailed treatment design allows optimal guidance of the patient to his or her personal goal. Important treatment elements include the optimization of the ability of the humerus head to centralize and the proprioception of the shoulder joint, as well as reinstatement of strength and endurance, especially of the rotator cuff.

Chronic varus instability or recurrent subluxation following isolated interphalangeal dislocation of the hallux is a rare injury. No consensus has been reached regarding the best joint-salvage procedure for patients with the failed collateral ligament reconstruction using tendon graft. We report a case who achieved satisfactory clinical outcome through a modified surgical procedure (revision collateral ligament reconstruction augmented with suture-tape).

Cross-country skiing exercises most of the joints, muscles and tendons in the body giving the skier an all around workout. This, in combination with a low incidence of injury, makes cross-country skiing an ideal recreational and competitive sport. The new skating techniques developed during the last decade have resulted in greater velocity. The maximum speed during the diagonal stride technique is 6 m/sec compared to 8 to 9 m/sec when skating and double poling. Top-level skiers today use strong and ultra light skis of fiberglass and graphite. The ski weight is less than 500g. Today's skating t

In cases of large defects of the limbs, post-traumatic deformity and disability can have devastating effects on patients' quality of life. The purpose of this report is to describe the technique for raising a fasciocutaneous iliotibial perforator flap and present its application in the reconstruction of a complex soft tissue defect of the foot. The patient was a 13-year-old male who had suffered a crush injury to the foot in a motor vehicle accident 5 years earlier. Due to retraction of the skin, together with the extensor tendons of the digits, the patient could not flex the digits II, III, I

This study will present our experience in treating "spaghetti wrist," a complex injury of the distal forearm, with laceration of tendons, nerve(s), artery(es), and soft tissues. Also, we will present a review of the literature summarizing preoperative preparations, surgical and rehabilitation therapy, and immediate and delayed postoperative outcomes. The patients had complex injuries located in the distal 1/3 of the forearm, regardless of the physical etiologic agent, encompassing breach of the deep antebrachial fascia, at least one nerve, tendons, and, in some cases, arteries, along with sing

Rotator cuff tear is a common shoulder injury that causes shoulder dysfunction and pain. Although surgical repair is the primary treatment for rotator cuff tear, it is well recognized that impaired force exertion of muscles connecting to the involved tendon and subsequent complemental change in the force exertion of synergist muscles persist even after repair. This study aimed to identify the compensation strategy of shoulder abductors by examining how synergist muscles respond to supraspinatus (SSP) muscle force deficit in patients with rotator cuff repair. Muscle shear modulus, an index of m
