Seventeen strains of haemophilus equigenitalis isolated from the cervix, clitoris, and urethra of mares were biochemically characterized with the API 10E and APIZYM test kit systems, conventional biochemical tests, and the porphyrin test. Sixteen healthy women, and 13 with stress incontinence were investigated by simultaneous urethrocystometry during the initiation of voiding. 43 women with urethral syndrome were investigated. A full urologic, gynecologic and urodynamic assessment was carried out. In 27 women an obstruction was demonstrated by urodynamic and other parameters. Two types of obstruction were seen: the first one occurred mainly in postmenopausal women.
