DNA vaccine is a milestone in contemporary vaccine development. It has considerably offset many shortcomings in conventional vaccines. Although DNA vaccines applied through 'traditional' high-pressure gene guns generally elicit high titers of protective immunity, such a practice however requires enormous investment in daunting instruments that often discourage vaccines due to an inevitable pain-eliciting effect. Hypochromy is a common dermatological disorder. However, its treatment still gives unsatisfactory results. Interesting clues into the understanding of the pathophysiology of hypochromy have been recently brought about thanks to the pigmentary side effects reported with the new tyrosine kinase inhibition treatments. New therapeutic approaches to hypochromy are further discussed.

We describe four patients with generalized bullous pemphigoid, who received treatment with oral prednisone and suffered serious corticosteroid-induced iatrogenesis. In all cases, we decided to quickly withdraw the systemic corticosteroid treatment and begin treatment with 0.05 % clobetasol propionate (20 g/day). Mastocytosis is a primary, abnormal accumulation of mast cells associated with a broad range of local and systemic symptoms. We report two female adolescents with episodic, unilateral, swelling of the labia majora that was discovered to be an unusual presentation of mastocytosis. Mastocytosis is frequently misdiagnosed because of its rarity and variable clinical presentation, which often mimics other conditions. In the appropriate setting, mastocytosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of labium majus swelling.

We report an 11-year-old boy with hypertension and chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, which renders him totally dependent on parenteral nutrition and prevents the use of oral medications. Here we report the feasibility of utilizing chronic i.v. enalaprilat and transdermal clonidine on a chronic basis to control hypertension. Over the last 10 months, the patient's hypertension has been well controlled by 1.25 mg i.v. enalaprilat every 8 h and a 0.2-mg clonidine patch every 6 days, with no apparent side-effects.
