Integrating Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Testing into a Community-Based Cohort of Latine Young Adults: Patterns and Predictors of Uptake.

BACKGROUND: We examined STI testing behaviors in a community-based study that removed access and cost barriers by offering in-person and mail-in testing. METHODS: A Crecer is a prospective cohort study of adolescents and young adults in an agricultural, majority Latine community (2015-2025). STI testing was offered at three annual visits in emerging adulthood (2022-2025). Participants provided biospecimens for chlamydia/gonorrhea testing, either in-person or via mailed self-collection kit, and completed questionnaires. We examined associations between individual, relationship, and environment

Awareness, knowledge and acceptability of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis among women of black descent attending sexual health clinics in England: a cross-sectional survey.

OBJECTIVES: Women of black descent in England experience a disproportionate burden of HIV but remain under-represented among users of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Evidence on PrEP awareness, knowledge and acceptability in this population is limited. This study assessed these factors among women attending National Health Service (NHS) Sexual Health clinics. METHODS: An exploratory cross-sectional survey was conducted at two level 3 NHS Sexual Health services in England between August 2023 and May 2024. Women aged ≥16 years who self-identified as being of black ethnicity or descent were

"Everybody thinks that it won't happen to them": A mixed-methods study of HIV prevention strategies among people experiencing homelessness who use drugs.

BACKGROUND: HIV disproportionately affects people experiencing homelessness, particularly those who use drugs. Although effective prevention strategies exist, uptake remains suboptimal in high-risk populations. Limited research has examined how this population engages with HIV prevention strategies and the contextual factors shaping behaviors. METHODS: We conducted a mixed-methods study of adults (≥18 years) experiencing homelessness with recent drug use, recruited from three Boston sites (Feb 2024-Jan 2025). Participants completed a survey assessing HIV prevention strategy uptake. A subsampl

Contraception and abortion misinformation among crisis pregnancy center attendees and non-attendees.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether patients who attended a crisis pregnancy center (CPC) before initiating prenatal care hold more misinformation about contraception and abortion relative to CPC non-attendees. STUDY DESIGN: We surveyed prenatal care patients who had attended a CPC during their current pregnancy before initiating prenatal care (n = 99) and a control group, matched on age and race, who had not attended a CPC during the index pregnancy (n = 99). We used bivariable linear regression to evaluate whether CPC attendees had lower knowledge scores for contraception and abortion (assessed

Interrelationship between chemsex engagement and PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) experience in men who have sex with men: a community-based cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Chemsex engagement is known to be associated with higher-risk sexual behaviour, HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI). To reduce HIV infection risk, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is increasingly used in the men who have sex with men (MSM) community. This study aims to examine the interrelationship between chemsex engagement and PrEP use in MSM. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study with the recruitment of MSM in the community in Hong Kong. Participating MSM were invited to complete an online survey which included PrEP (experienced or naïve) use, chemsex engagement hist

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea screening and diagnosis by anatomical site among individuals with opposite-sex partners: a rapid review.

OBJECTIVES: Chlamydia and gonorrhoea have remained the most common nationally notifiable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the USA, demonstrating a need for more clarity on rates of testing and diagnosis. Behavioural changes (eg, declining condom use) may contribute to high cases, although sexual activity rates have decreased. Increased STI screening, especially among women, could also influence diagnosis rates. Research shows differences in infection rates by anatomical site (urogenital, oral, rectal) and the need for more comprehensive screening. This study aimed to explore how scree

Migration is Associated With Increased HIV Vulnerability Among Young Transgender Women in Lima, Peru.

BACKGROUND: Latin America-amid its largest mass migration-has seen minimal progress in curbing new HIV infections. Transgender women (TW) in the region are disproportionately affected, but scant data examine HIV vulnerabilities alongside migration. METHODS: Between February and July 2022, 211 young TW ages 16-24 in Lima participated in a cross-sectional quantitative study accompanied by serological testing (HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B). Bivariate tests compared HIV and STI prevalence and related vulnerabilities among migrants to nonmigrants. Poisson regression modeling es

[Sexual behaviour and incidence of sexually transmitted infections among men who have sex with men (MSM) using daily and event-driven pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP): Four-year follow-up of the Amsterdam PrEP (AMPrEP) demonstration project cohort].

OBJECTIVE: HIV can be effectively prevented by oral HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). When PrEP was introduced, there was apprehension that condom use would decrease and STIs would increase. The purpose of this study was to investigate sexual behaviour and STI incidence among PrEP users. DESIGN: Prospective cohort study METHODS: The Amsterdam PrEP demonstration project (AMPrEP) provided oral PrEP to men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women from 2015 to 2020. Participants could choose between daily and event-driven PrEP. We tested for HIV and STIs at each quarterly study visit.

Associations between disordered eating behaviour and sexual behaviour amongst emerging adults attending a tertiary education institution in Coastal Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Sexual behavior (SB) is a well-documented pathway to HIV acquisition in emerging adults and remains common amongst African emerging adults. Previous research in high-income countries indicates a correlation between disordered eating behavior (DEB) and engaging in sexual behaviors. We aimed to describe the relationship between DEB and SB amongst emerging adults attending a tertiary educational institution at the Kenyan Coast. METHODS: We applied a cross-sectional design nested in a young adults' cohort study. Eligibility included sexually active emerging adults aged 18-24 years. Th

Mediating role of food insecurity in the relationship between perceived MSM related stigma and depressive symptoms among men who have sex with men in Nepal.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have indicated the association between stigma and depressive symptoms among frequently stigmatized groups, such as men who have sex with men (MSM). While this association has been suggested in the literature, there is a dearth of evidence that examines whether food insecurity statistically mediates the relationship between stigma and depressive symptoms. METHODS: This cross-sectional study conducted between October and December 2022 among a sample of 250 MSM in Kathmandu, Nepal, recruited through respondent-driven sampling. An unadjusted model including the exposu
