BACKGROUND: Patients with relapsed/refractory stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma were enrolled on a phase I study (NANT2004-03) of intravenous fenretinide emulsion. Pharmacokinetic samples were collected during and after the infusion, and the levels were measured using an HPLC system. A 9-year-old boy reported with swelling on right side of the face after injury by a cricket ball while fielding. Synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis, osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome is a rare group of sterile, inflammatory osteoarticular disorders classically associated with skin lesions. It is occasionally associated with enteropathic disease such as ulcerative colitis. We present a 39-year-old patient with chronic ulcerative colitis who developed enteropathic SAPHO and responded well to pamidronate. We discuss the clinicopathological features with particular attention to bone pathology, and perform a literature review of this fascinating syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a common problem in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Use of intravenous (i.v.) iron effectively treats the resultant anemia, but available iron products have side effects or dosing regimens that limit safety and convenience.
