Early Intranasal Vasopressin Administration Impairs Partner Preference in Adult Male Prairie Voles (Microtus ochrogaster).

Research supports a modulatory role for arginine vasopressin (AVP) in the expression of socially motivated behaviors in mammals. The acute effects of AVP administration are demonstrably pro-social across species, providing the justification for an ever-increasing measure of clinical interest over the last decade. Combining these results with non-invasive intranasal delivery results in an attractive system for offering intranasal AVP (IN-AVP) as a therapeutic for the social impairments of children with autism spectrum disorder. But, very little is known about the long-term effects of IN-AVP dur

The role of the multidisciplinary health care team in the management of patients with Marfan syndrome.

Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a rare, severe, chronic, life-threatening disease with multiorgan involvement that requires optimal multidisciplinary care to normalize both prognosis and quality of life. In this article, each key team member of all the medical disciplines of a multidisciplinary health care team at the Hamburg Marfan center gives a personal account of his or her contribution in the management of patients with MFS. The authors show how, with the support of health care managers, key team members organize themselves in an organizational structure to create a common meaning, to maximize t

Incidence of defibrillator shocks after elective generator exchange following uneventful first battery life.

BACKGROUND: A significant number of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) patients do not experience shocks after ICD implant. Elective generator exchange (GE) has been associated with increased risk of infection and ICD lead failure. There is a paucity of contemporary data reporting on shock incidence with replacement devices. METHODS AND RESULTS: Patients undergoing elective GE (n=24 203) who transmit data remotely via a remote monitoring system were analyzed to determine the incidence of ICD shocks after GE. A total of 16 230 patients (67%) did not experience a shock with the first

Reproductive factors and Parkinson's disease risk in Danish women.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Parkinson's disease is more common in men than women by a ratio of about 1.5:1 and yet there is no consensus to date as to whether female reproductive factors including hormone use affect Parkinson's disease risk. Our objective was to examine the relationship between Parkinson's disease and female reproductive factors in the largest population-based Parkinson's disease case-control study to date. METHODS: Seven hundred and forty-three female Parkinson's disease cases diagnosed between 1996 and 2009 were selected from the Danish National Hospital Register, diagnoses con

Diagnosis and treatment of hereditary angioedema.

Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder affecting approximately 1 in 50000 persons. It causes frequent attacks of non-pitting, non-pruritic edema without urticaria, usually of the skin of the extremities, gastrointestinal tract, and upper airways. Gastrointestinal attacks may cause severe pain, and attacks in the laryngeal region may lead to asphyxiation and death. HAE usually begins in childhood or adolescence and persists throughout life. The majority of HAE cases are caused by mutations that result in low levels of functional C1-inhibitor (C1-INH), a serine proteas

Measles, mumps and rubella infections and atopic disorders in MMR-unvaccinated and MMR-vaccinated children.

Vaccinations have been incriminated in the increase of atopic disorders. Especially the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccination is often refused by people having a notion that these infectious diseases are beneficial for a healthy development of a child's immune system. This practice endangers herd immunity and is the cause of repeated outbreaks. As the clinical course of infections and also its possible impact on the development of atopy may be different in vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, we explored in vaccinated and unvaccinated children associations of MMR infection with atopic di

[Grave's disease and stress].

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, there have been many reports about a possible association between Stressful Life Events (SLE) and the onset of Graves' Disease (GD). Nevertheless, most papers have been criticised and no such association has yet been proven. AIM OF THE STUDY: To assess the possible associations between SLE and the onset of GD. METHODS: Retrospective study of 62 subjects, divided into 2 groups of 31 each, GD (Gp1) and controls (Gp2). The patients in Gp1 had thyroid disease diagnosed within the last 12 months, with clinical and biochemical confirmation. In Gp2, psychopathological

Psychosocial impact of pediatric BMT on siblings.

Although bone marrow transplantation (BMT) has become standard therapy for many life-threatening disorders of childhood, there is little research on the psychosocial impact of BMT on siblings of children undergoing BMT. Such siblings face issues common to any family with a chronic illness. However, the psychological impact on the family is intensified because two family members, usually children, are subjected to intrusive medical procedures. Investigators had earlier noted that sibling donors may be at risk for behavioral problems and anxiety, while nondonors may experience ambivalent feeling

Embossed Colorimetric Sensor Array-Based Optoelectronic Nose for the Detection of Real Chemical Warfare Agents and Toxic Industrial Chemicals: A Practical Approach Using Off-the-Shelf-Reagents, Thermodynamic, and Kinetic Fingerprints.

In chemical emergencies, real-time monitoring of chemical warfare agents (CWAs) and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs) is essential for effective mitigation. Ideally, such detection requires the deployment of a large number of sensors capable of providing real-time information. Despite the advantages of colorimetric systems, such as ease of fabrication, low cost, high sensitivity, and low power requirement, no single platform currently exists that can detect a broad spectrum of CWAs and TICs. To address this gap, we propose an optoelectronic nose for the detection of real CWAs, including nerve

Effectiveness of green health prescribing and nature-based interventions in primary care and community settings for older adults: a systematic review of health, wellbeing and social outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Green Health Prescribing involves health and care professionals prescribing structured, nature-based interventions, such as gardening, walking in green spaces, or cultural activities outdoors. With population ageing and increasing pressure on healthcare systems, Green Health Prescribing has been proposed as a potentially cost-effective approach to support healthy ageing in older adults with long-term conditions. This review summarises evidence on the effectiveness of Green Health Prescribing and related nature-based interventions for older adults. METHODS: A systematic review was

[A review of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) 2025 first aid and adult basic life support practical guidelines: implications for Hungarian practice].

The scientific approach to first aid has gained significant prominence in medical literature over recent decades. This process represents a paradigm shift: immediate care is no longer viewed merely as an altruistic "Good Samaritan" act, but as a discipline demanding the rigour of evidence-based medicine. Since global survival rates for various emergencies continue to show significant variance, it has become essential to establish a scientifically grounded framework for both laypeople and healthcare professionals. This review aims to present and analyze the latest 2025 European Resuscitation Co

External Validation of the SCARE Score for Predicting Acute Myocardial Infarction in Patients Calling Emergency Medical Communication Centers: A Prospective Multicenter Study.

OBJECTIVES: Chest pain triage during emergency medical dispatch must balance early identification of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with appropriate allocation of prehospital resources. Our objectives were to externally validate the SCARE score for discrimination of hospital-diagnosed AMI among adults hospitalized after Emergency Medical Communication Center (EMCC) calls for non-traumatic chest pain and to evaluate performance by sex. METHODS: This prospective observational multicenter study included adults hospitalized after an EMCC call for non-traumatic chest pain in four French physici

Global and regional burden of major depressive disorder and associated risk factors: analysis from the Global Burden of disease study, 1990-2021.

INTRODUCTION: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a leading cause of disability worldwide, placing a heavy burden on individuals and healthcare systems. Understanding global and regional epidemiological patterns is essential for designing effective interventions. This study aims to evaluate the burden of MDD and its major risk factors globally and in China, offering evidence for targeted mental health strategies. METHODS: We extracted data on MDD prevalence, incidence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and selected attributable risk factors between 1990 and 2021 from the Global Burde

Global pharmacovigilance analysis of dermatologic toxicity in EGFR-TKI-treated NSCLC: a cross-database real-world study.

INTRODUCTION: Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) have transformed the treatment of EGFR-mutant non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), significantly improving survival outcomes and quality of life compared with conventional chemotherapy. However, inhibition of EGFR signaling, a key regulator of epidermal homeostasis, frequently results in dermatologic adverse drug reactions (ADRs), which may compromise treatment adherence and negatively affect patient well-being. This study aimed to characterize the real-world reporting patterns of cutaneous ADRs associated wit

Development and validation of a minimum data set for total joint arthroplasty registries.

BACKGROUND: Total joint arthroplasties (TJAs), including total knee (TKA) and total hip (THA), are common treatments for end-stage arthritis, significantly improving patients' quality of life (QoL). Clinical TJA registries play a critical role in monitoring implant performance, revision surgeries, postoperative complications, and long-term outcomes and patient-reported outcomes (PROs). However, the lack of a standardized data collection framework limits data integration, interoperability, and comparison across healthcare systems and studies. This study aims to establish a minimum data set (MDS

Do modular tapered long stems differ in stability and function? A prospective comparison of two stems in complex femoral revision THA.

BACKGROUND: Revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) in the setting of substantial proximal femoral bone loss is technically challenging. Modular tapered fluted stems provide predictable diaphyseal fixation while allowing independent adjustment of version, offset, and limb length. Among these, two commonly used systems-modular tapered fluted stem Type A (Revitan™) and Type B (LIMA Modulus™)-have limited direct comparative evidence. This study aimed to prospectively compare radiographic stem subsidence (primary outcome), as well as functional outcomes, complications, survivorship, and secondary o
