A multi-centre longitudinal study analysing multiple sclerosis disease-modifying therapy prescribing patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic raised concern amongst clinicians that disease-modifying therapies (DMT), particularly anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) and fingolimod, could worsen COVID-19 in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). This study aimed to examine DMT prescribing trends pre- and post-pandemic onset. METHODS: A multi-centre longitudinal study with 8,771 participants from MSBase was conducted. Two time periods were defined: pre-pandemic (March 11 2018-March 10 2020) and post-pandemic onset (March 11 2020-11 March 2022). The association between time and prescribing trends was

National and interprovincial prescribing patterns of JAK-inhibitors in Canada: a repeated cross-sectional analysis.

Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors have emerged as a novel category of medications to treat a variety of immune-mediated conditions. However, limited insight exists regarding the impact of safety concerns on their usage and prescribing practices. Therefore, the objective of this study was to describe the utilization of JAK-inhibitors in Canada, both nationally and within individual provinces. We used data from IQVIA's Compuscript database. We conducted a repeated cross-sectional study of all JAK-inhibitor units dispensed in retail pharmacies (tofacitinib, ruxolitinib, baricitinib, and upadacitinib)

Opioid and dependence-forming medications co-prescription reduction and oversight: the OPIO-CHECK Quality Improvement Project (QIP) protocol and interim analysis.

BACKGROUND: Long-term opioid prescription to manage chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) is rapidly rising, despite the lacking evidence supporting their safety and efficacy. Co-prescribing opioids with other dependence-forming medications (DFMs) causes fatal side effects. Clinicians are advised to avoid combinations of DFMs and, where suitable, deprescribe to improve patient safety. AIM: To review the number of patients registered to the Grange Medical Centre (Nuneaton, Warwickshire) who are co-prescribed an opioid and either benzodiazepine/gabapentinoid for CNCP and to reduce usage of these DFMs.

Differences in Inpatient Management of Cancer-Related Pain Among Patients with Opioid Use Disorder.

The management of cancer-related pain in patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) remains complex and often challenging for clinicians and patients. There is currently a paucity of data to guide best practices, and the evidence that exists is variably applied. In this hospital-based questionnaire, we sought to understand the variation in practice patterns among clinicians in palliative medicine, addiction medicine, and hospital medicine, in caring for this complex patient population. Sixty-two questionnaire responses were analyzed and variation was found in management of pain, as well as initia
