The Bobath Concept (NDT) as rehabilitation in stroke patients: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The Bobath approach, also known as neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT), is a widely used concept in the rehabilitation of stroke patients with hemiparesis in many countries. This technique is being used since years all over the world; however, strong evidence of its usefulness is still not present. This review is aimed to find out its effectiveness based on the randomized controlled trials in the rehabilitation of stroke patients with motor disability and to compare it with other therapeutic techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic literature search on PubMed

Evaluating the efficacy of transcranial direct current stimulation for refractory epilepsy: A meta-analysis of RCTs and non-RCTs.

An increasing number of research indicate that non-invasive neurostimulation techniques, like transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), can effectively control refractory epilepsy. While previous meta-analyses have primarily focused on randomized controlled trials (RCTs), this study expands the scope by including both RCTs and non-RCTs to provide a more comprehensive assessment of tDCS efficacy in treating refractory epilepsy. Through a systematic search of "PUBMED, Embase and Cochrane", we sought relevant studies related to the research topic. We utilized the Cochrane Collaboration tool

Impact of source data verification on data quality in clinical trials: an empirical post hoc analysis of three phase 3 randomized clinical trials.

AIM: The aim of this project was to perform an empirical evaluation of the impact of on site source data verification (SDV) on the data quality in a clinical trial database to guide an informed decision on selection of the monitoring approach. METHODS: We used data from three randomized phase III trials monitored with a combination of complete SDV or partial SDV. After database lock, individual subject data were extracted from the clinical database and subjected to post hoc complete SDV. Error rates were calculated with focus on the degree of on study monitoring and relevance and analyzed for

Urate oxidase for the prevention and treatment of tumour lysis syndrome in children with cancer.

BACKGROUND: Tumour lysis syndrome (TLS) is a serious complication of malignancies and can result in renal failure or death. Preliminary reports suggest that urate oxidase is effective in reducing serum uric acid, the build-up of which causes TLS. It is uncertain whether high-quality evidence exists to support its routine use in children with malignancies. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects and safety of urate oxidase for the prevention and treatment of TLS in children with malignancies. SEARCH METHODS: This is an update of the original review. We performed a comprehensive search of the Cochra

Systematic review of the effects of n-3 fatty acids in inflammatory bowel disease.

BACKGROUND: n-3 Fatty acids are purported to have health effects in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but studies have reported mixed results. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to synthesize published and unpublished evidence to determine estimates of the effect of n-3 fatty acids on clinical outcomes in IBD and whether n-3 fatty acids modify the effects of or need for treatment with other agents. DESIGN: Computerized databases were searched for studies of n-3 fatty acids in immune-mediated diseases from 1966 to 2003. We also contacted experts in the nutraceutical industry to identify unpubl

Principles of Clinical Management of Patent Ductus Arteriosus in Extremely Preterm Neonates.

The clinical management of a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm newborns is a controversial topic, and despite nearly three decades of research, varying opinions remain. This dilemma stems from uncertain causal linkage between PDA and neonatal comorbidities, as well as the lack of clear evidence showing that benefits of treatment outweigh risks. There has been a general shift in the management of PDA in preterm newborns from early and aggressive closure to a more conservative approach of watchful waiting and spontaneous closure. However, a firm recommendation cannot be made due to a lac
