The aim of this study was to report the long-term results from a previously published midterm follow-up of a titanium monoblock, elliptical acetabular component. A total of 258 primary total hip arthroplasties (212 patients) with a monoblock, acetabular component were followed up for a mean period of 11.1 years (10-15). The optimal surface finish on cementless total hip arthroplasty is still a matter of debate. 145 hips in 130 patients with hybrid total hip arthroplasty using a hemispherical, titanium plasma-sprayed cup were followed for an average of 8.5 years. The aim of the study was to assess the results of segmental mandibular resections and the validity of mandibular reconstructions. The medical records of 95 patients treated between January 1, 1987 and December 31, 1992 were reviewed. There were 82 (86%) carcinomas, 9 ameloblastomas and 4 sarcomas. We report on an 82-year-old female who developed painless "squeaking" and a grinding sensation 23 years after a ceramic-on-metal total hip arthroplasty.
