[Burden of caregivers caring for persons with dementia].

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other dementias are common disorders in the elderly. Most AD patients are cared for at home by family members. Caregiving stress often leads to problems in care givers' mental and physical health. Certain factors predict caregivers' distress, such as the presence of patient behavioral problems, the nature of the caregivers' social support and ability to cope with difficult situations. The term "caregiver burden" is used to refer to the physical, psychological or emotional, social and financial problems that can be experienced by family members caring for impaired o

Psychosocial aspects of breast cancer.

Over the past year, several research areas have been noteworthy. This article discusses several reports on psychiatric morbidity and psychological factors of breast cancer, quality-of-life issues related to breast cancer treatment, and psychological factors in breast cancer screening. An area of increasing interest includes studies examining the psychological status and breast cancer screening practices of women at increased risk of developing breast cancer, primarily as a function of family history.

Psychological aspects of hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia.

There is little information on the psychologic aspects of HED. In particular, there is insufficient evidence to support or dispute the claim that the intelligence of persons with HED is dissimilar to that of the general population. Impressions of frequent mental retardation may arise from patients suffering brain damage following high fever and from our biases against the physically unattractive. A small number of adults with HED have been reported to hold a relatively wide range of jobs, and an even smaller number have been reported with educational and occupational achievement that is predic

Impact of family function on psychological distress and its threshold effect in informal caregivers of elderly people with dementia.

OBJECTS: The Circumplex model has been a subject of controversy. Our study aims to validate its curvilinear hypothesis by examining the relationship between family function and psychological distress in informal caregivers of people with dementia (PwD). If a curvilinear relationship is identified, it will provide empirical support for the Circumplex model. Conversely, if a linear relationship is found, the threshold effect can be further clarified, thereby offering a foundation for personalized psychological intervention strategies for caregivers at the family level. METHODS: We recruited a to

Adaptation of behavioural activation for adolescents with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and depression.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescents with intellectual disabilities are at increased risk for mental health problems and depression. Despite this, there is currently no evidence for effective psychological interventions for treating low mood and depression in this population. Behavioural activation has been identified as an effective intervention for treating depression in autistic adolescents and for adults with intellectual disabilities and may therefore also be suitable for use with adolescents with intellectual disabilities. METHOD: The current paper describes an approach taken to adapting an existi

Adaptation of adult bone marrow transplant recipient long-term survivors.

Although there is a small literature on psychosocial and psychiatric aspects of bone marrow transplants (BMT) in adult recipients during the BMT hospitalization phase, adaptation of long-term adult BMT recipient survivors has received little study. This study surveyed the adaptation of BMT recipient survivors over age 17 who were an average of 42 months posttransplant. Study variables included the recipients' current self-reported health status, mood state, social role function, self esteem, life satisfaction, and relationships with their BMT donors and other family members. A companion study

Neural sensitivity to social feedback and adaptations to changing social contexts in adolescence.

Adolescence has long been recognized as a period of heightened social concern that can lead to negative outcomes including risk-taking and internalizing distress. More recently however, there has been an emerging focus on identifying how enhanced social attunement can promote social connections and prosocial behavior, enhancing wellbeing. In this paper, we argue that neural sensitivity to social evaluation functions as a differential susceptibility factor and propose a model to test whether neurally sensitive adolescents evidence greater changes in psychosocial function as their interpersonal

Nurse-led attribution remodeling training based on the Neuman systems model to enhance resilience, adaptive coping, and attributional style in women newly diagnosed with breast cancer: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Psychological interventions for patients with breast cancer often overlook the critical role of maladaptive attributional style in shaping their adjustment. Therefore, the need for theory-driven, scalable interventions that target cognitive restructuring, particularly during the vulnerable post-diagnosis period, is clear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse-led attribution remodeling training intervention grounded in the Neuman systems model for improving resilience, adaptive coping, and attributional style among women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. DESIGN: A

Impact of psychosocial factors on fibromyalgia: A systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: This systematic review examined the influence of psychosocial factors on pain intensity, functionality, psychological distress, and quality of life in fibromyalgia (FM), with particular attention to emotional distress, social support, and coping-related variables. METHODS: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched for studies published between 2020 and 2026 in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. Twenty-nine empirical studies met the inclusion criteria, comprising 20.929 adults with FM (predominantly women). Most studies were cross-sectional (75

From individual coping to collective resilience: reframing mental health responses to global crises through geopsychiatry.

Global crises are reshaping the conditions under which mental health is produced, threatened, protected, and restored. Pandemics, climate change, armed conflict, forced migration, political instability, economic insecurity, disasters, and digital disruption do not affect mental health only through individual stress reactions or discrete traumatic exposures. They also transform the social, territorial, institutional, ecological, and symbolic environments in which people interpret threat, seek support, access care, maintain hope, and imagine the future. This Conceptual Analysis reframes mental h

Transgenerational trauma and schema therapy: Imagery rescripting and chairwork in practice.

INTRODUCTION: Transgerational transmitted trauma is the transmission of psychological injuries between generations. This article uses two case vignettes to explore selected schema therapy approaches that help clients process transgenerationally transmitted trauma from their ancestors. Specific methods of imagery rescripting and chair work enable clients to transform maladaptive patterns of experiencing into healthier coping strategies, support better stress management, improve emotional regulation and communication in relationships, and encourage more profound relationships with themselves and
