Effective Radiotherapy in Tracheobronchial Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma With Positive Surgical Margin.

BACKGROUND: The study aimed to evaluate the role of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) in the treatment of trachea and main bronchus adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) with a positive surgical margin. METHODS: Patients with pathologically confirmed trachea or main bronchus ACC operated on at Shanghai Chest Hospital were enrolled. Survival, univariate, and multivariate analyses were performed. The χ2 test was applied to analyze the failure patterns among different groups (R0/0: negative margin resection without PORT; R1/0: positive margin resection without PORT; R1/1: positive margin resection with

Tonsil volume may predict adenoid size: a real-life study.

Tonsil hypertrophy (TH) and adenoid hypertrophy (AH) are very common in children. Adenoid is visible only by endoscopy. This study investigated the possible relationship between the tonsil and adenoid volume and the possible prediction of adenoid size. Globally, 991 children (461 females, 530 males, mean age 6.2 ± 2.3 years), complaining persistent upper airway obstruction, were consecutively visited at an otorhinolaryngological unit. TH was significantly (p<0.0001) associated with AH and tonsil volume predicted adenoid size. This outcome could have relevance in clinical practice as adenoid ar

Primary adenoid cystic carcinoma of the tracheobronchial tree: report of two cases.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant epithelial tumor that predominantly originates in the salivary glands. Primary ACC of the tracheobronchial tree is extremely rare. We report two new cases of central airways primary ACC: a 58 year-old male with an ACC of the left main bronchus who underwent a pneumonectomy with node dissection, and a 52 year-old female with proximal tracheal ACC presenting as asthma treated by surgical resection and a postoperative radiotherapy. Primary ACC of the tracheobronchial tree is often misdiagnosed given the non-specific clinical presentation. An earl

Adenoid cystic carcinoma with myoepithelial predominance affecting maxilla and maxillary sinus.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) represents less than 10% of all salivary gland tumors, rarely occurring centrally in the jaws. Herein we describe the case of a 36-year-old female patient presenting a painless swelling in the right maxilla, resulting in marked facial asymmetry. Intra-orally it was observed a swelling covered by an erythematous and irregular-surfaced mucosa, affecting the gingiva and crossing the midline of the hard palate. Imaging studies showed a mixed radiolucent-radiopaque lesion with ill-defined borders, involving the right side of the maxilla and the maxillary sinus. Incisi

Here we reported a case of bronchial adenoid cystic carcinoma from Peking University Third Hospital. A 40-year-old female presented with dry cough for 1 year and nocturnal paroxysmal attacks of wheezing for 4 months. She was a non-smoker, and did not have past histories of asthma or allergy. On physical examination, no stridor, wheezing and cyanosis were present and the general appearance was good. The results of the laboratory analysis, including blood eosinophils count, immunoglobulin E level and chest X-ray were normal. Spirometry revealed reversible airflow obstruction, and post-bronchodil

Frequent NFIB-associated Gene Rearrangement in Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Vulva.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare malignant tumor that usually arises in the major and minor salivary glands and other locations containing secretory glands, including the lower female genital tract. Lower female genital tract carcinomas with adenoid cystic differentiation can be subclassified into 2 distinct groups based on the presence or absence of high-risk HPV. Cervical mixed carcinomas with some adenoid cystic differentiation are high-risk HPV-related but pure adenoid cystic carcinomas of vulvar and cervical origin appear to be unrelated to high-risk HPV. Mechanisms by which normal cell

Breast Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma: A Rare Case Report and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Primary adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the breast is a rare subtype of invasive breast cancer. It has a particular interest because of its excellent prognosis conversely to other triple-negative breast cancers that are associated with poor prognosis. The place of chemotherapy and radiotherapy remains controversial and there is no consensus on optimal management of the ACC of the breast. CASE REPORT: A 50-year-old woman, presented with a palpable right breast lump. Core biopsy of the lump revealed an adenoid cystic carcinoma. A lumpectomy with axillary lymph node dissection was

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the lacrimal gland is frequently characterized by MYB rearrangement.

PurposeAdenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) represents ~10-15% of salivary neoplasms and almost universally exhibits a lethal clinical course. ACC is also known to occur in the lacrimal gland. ACC is characterized by its heterogeneous morphology and may demonstrate tubular, cribriform, and/or solid architectural patterns. Unfortunately, these histopathological features are not specific to ACC and can be seen in other salivary gland-type neoplasms, introducing a diagnostic dilemma. The discovery of fusion transcripts has revolutionized the diagnosis, surveillance, and treatment of epithelial malignan

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of Maxillary Sinus Misdiagnosed as Chronic Apical Periodontitis.

Sometimes pain originating from a non-odontogenic pathologic condition is mistaken as endodontic illness, leading to misdiagnosis. The patient can misinterpret the pain as originating from a site different from the actual site, which is known as referred pain. However, the clinician managing pain in the orofacial region needs to be well-informed about the typical signs and symptoms of non-odontogenic diseases and to be able to make the correct referral when necessary for proper diagnosis and treatment. A 43-year-old man presented to the department of conservative dentistry complaining of denta

Population-based trends in outcomes in adenoid cystic carcinoma of the oral cavity.

PURPOSE: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant epithelial neoplasm of secretory glands of the upper aerodigestive tract. It accounts for 3-5% of head and neck malignancies and most commonly arises from the minor salivary glands of the oral cavity. The clinical behavior of ACC from specific anatomic subsites, including the oral cavity, is not well described in the literature. We aim to elucidate patient demographics, clinicopathologic features, incidence, and survival trends for oral cavity ACC (OCACC). METHODS: Retrospective population-based analysis of OCACC in the SEER database

68Ga-PSMA PET-CT Imaging of Metastatic Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.

AIM: The diagnosis, severity and extent of a sterile inflammation or a septic infection could be challenging since there is not one single test able to achieve an accurate diagnosis. The clinical use of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging in the assessment of inflammation and infection is increasing worldwide. The purpose of this paper is to achieve an Italian consensus document on [18F]FDG PET/CT or PET/MRI in inflammatory and infectious diseases, such as osteomyelitis (OM), prosthetic joint infections (PJI), infective endocardit
