This study investigated the toxicity of bisphenol A (BPA) and three analogues - BPAP, BPZ and BPAF (BPs) - to Arenicola marina, a marine polychaete often used for assessing the toxicity of chemicals to sediment-dwelling organisms. BPA accumulates in marine sediments, while the properties of the analogues also imply that they partition to marine sediment in preference to water. BPA and the three BPs were found to cause mortality at similar concentrations. Based on nominal exposure concentrations, LC50s for BPA, BPAF, BPAP and BPZ were 7.23, 4.56, 3.84 and 5.07 mg/kg dry weight respectively. Com

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a widely existing endocrine-disrupting chemical that poses potential threats to human and animal health, including inducing metabolic disorders. Although previous studies have reported the adverse effects of BPA on liver glucose and lipid metabolism, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain incompletely elucidated. This study systematically evaluated the effects of BPA exposure on liver glucose and lipid metabolism in mouse hepatocytes (AML12) and mouse models, and detected its association with circadian clock disruption. In vitro models, BPA exposure for 24 h significan

Reproductive disorders may originate from many factors including exposure to environmental chemicals in the womb or during the early stages of postnatal life. Throughout these stages, the exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), such as bisphenols, can disrupt reproductive function. These compounds cross the placenta and cause long-term epigenetic alterations in the fetus. Bisphenols are a large class of chemicals mainly used in the plastic industry and epoxy resin production. Bisphenol A (BPA) was the first and most widely used compound; however, it acts as a hormone by binding to e…

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a widely used industrial chemical present in numerous consumer products such as plastics, epoxy resins, and thermal paper. Growing evidence suggests that BPA may pose potential health risks, particularly in relation to carcinogenesis. In this study, we investigated the toxic effects and carcinogenic role of BPA using two bladder cancer cell lines, T24 and UMUC. Our results show that BPA influences cell viability and migration in a dose-dependent manner. At low concentrations, BPA significantly promoted cell growth and cell migration in both T24 and UMUC cells, whereas high

Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) are diverse colloidal systems that enhance the solubility, stability, and bioavailability of bioactive compounds. Herein, we developed a co-loaded NLC encapsulating thymoquinone (TQ) and resveratrol (RV) to enhance prevention against globally emerging endocrine disruptor bisphenol S (BPS) induced cytotoxicity in NRK-52E cells. The formulation components were rationally optimised, achieving high encapsulation efficiencies for TQ (99.42% ± 0.08) and RV (98.60% ± 0.12), a particle size of 123.66 ± 6.32 nm, and a polydispersity index of 0.37 ± 0.04, indicating

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous industrial chemical found in numerous consumer products. While its endocrine-disrupting effects and reproductive toxicity are well-documented, the widespread use of structural analogues (BPs) as "BPA-free" alternatives has raised urgent concerns regarding their comparable health risks. In this study, we employed a systematic network toxicology framework to evaluate the pathogenic mechanisms of 16 bisphenol congeners in asthenospermia. Through an integrated screening of disease-target associations, five lead compounds-BPA, BPS, BPB, BPP, and BPM-were identified

Bisphenol analogues (BPs) are widely used industrial chemicals, raising concern regarding their potential disruption of the thyroid hormone (TH) system. This study systematically evaluated the binding properties and interference potential of 21 structurally diverse BPs toward transthyretin (TTR) and thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG). Fluorescence polarization assays showed that TTR binding was primarily driven by bridging-group rigidity, halogen substitution, and hydroxyl number, whereas TBG affinity was more dependent on molecular polarity and steric volume. Molecular docking supported the rol

Dental resin monomers are widely used in restorative dentistry, yet their potential effects on kidney-related cell types remain poorly understood. This study investigated the effects of bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate (Bis-GMA) and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) on protein expression and cytoskeletal regulatory pathways in human mesangial cells. A proteomic analysis demonstrated differential expression of multiple members of the annexin A protein family in treated human mesangial cells compared with vehicle-treated controls. These findings were validated by western blotting and d

Environmental contaminants like bisphenol A (BPA) and nonylphenol (NP) are recognized neurotoxicants; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying their impact on sensory ganglia, specifically the trigeminal ganglion (TG), remain critically underexplored. This study explored the potential of BPA and NP to drive neuronal injury and ferroptosis linked to oxidative stress, acting through the transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2)-poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP1) signaling axis. Forty-two adult male Wistar rats were allocated into seven groups (control, low-dose [25 mg/kg]/high-do

Bile acids (BAs) are important for cholesterol metabolism and the secretion of xenobiotic compounds. This study examined the effects of 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) and bisphenol A (BPA) on bile salt export pump (BSEP) inhibition in chicken embryos and the LMH cell line. BA-related genes and BA concentrations were measured at embryonic day (ED) 11 and 20, and in LMH spheroids at 24 and 48 h. EE2 and BPA altered BA-related gene expression, including downregulation of BSEP, with greater changes at ED11 and 24 h. EE2 and BPA increased BA concentrations at ED20 and 48 h. EE2 (25, 50 µg/g) and BPA (5

Urban rivers in semiarid regions face intensified bisphenol A (BPA) contamination due to limited dilution capacity, extended low-flow periods, and pronounced seasonal hydrological variability. This study investigated BPA distribution and migration dynamics across water-sediment-fish compartments in Xi'an's river network (northwestern China) through spatial-temporal monitoring and multimedia coupling (MMC) modeling. BPA concentrations ranged 0.08-3.65 μg/L (water), 5.32-68.45 μg/kg (sediment), and 12.5-156.8 μg/kg (fish tissue), with wet season concentrations 115-166% higher than dry season val

BACKGROUND: Precocious puberty (PP), defined as the development of secondary sexual characteristics before age eight in girls or nine in boys, has shown a rising prevalence globally. Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine-disrupting chemical commonly found in plastics, has been suggested to influence pubertal timing, but epidemiological evidence remains inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between postnatal BPA exposure and early pubertal onset in children.
METHODS: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochr

BACKGROUND: Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a B-cell-mediated autoimmune disease characterized by impaired neuromuscular transmission. Although genetic predisposition and thymic abnormalities are well recognized, they cannot fully explain the increasing incidence and regional heterogeneity of MG, highlighting the potential contribution of environmental factors. Bisphenol A (BPA), a ubiquitous endocrine-disrupting chemical, exhibits estrogenic activity, immunomodulatory effects, and mitochondrial toxicity, and has been implicated in multiple autoimmune disorders. However, the potential role of BPA in

Bisphenol A is a high production volume chemical used extensively in the manufacture of polycarbonate plastics, epoxy resins, and thermal printer paper with a high potential for occupational and post-production dermal exposure. Bisphenol A-containing plastics were commonly used in food packaging, resulting in significant public exposure through leaching into foodstuff. The public is also at risk of dermal exposure due to environmental contamination. Due to public health concerns regarding the potential for endocrine disrupting effects, efforts have been applied to replace bisphenol A with sa

This research was designed to study the carcinogenic mechanisms of BPA on ovarian epithelial cells. For four months, mice were treated with low (LD, 1 mg/kg) and high (HD, 5 mg/kg of body weight) doses of BPA on alternate days through oral gavage; the control group was given corn oil through gavaging during 4 months. The histopathological data suggest that repeated BPA administration induces a borderline epithelial neoplasm with altered epithelial morphology with branching papillae. Various epithelial cells (ECs) in ovaries were identified by flow cytometry based on anti-mouse CD74 and podopla

In today's context, microplastic pollution has become an increasingly pressing issue not only for the environmental fallout but also for the assumed negative effects on human health. It is now well-established that microplastics (>1 mm in size) can enter the human body through ingestion, inhalation, dermal contact and also maternal-fetal transmission. Alarming were the recent findings of microplastics within the human term placenta. Among the degradation by-products of microplastics, Bisphenol-A (BPA) has emerged as a hazardous chemical, with potential toxicity at multisystemic level, particul

Lactational period is of extreme importance for nourishing and fostering growth in neonates. Bisphenol S (BPS) a congener of bisphenol A (BPA) is an emerging environmental toxicant reported to have deleterious effects on reproductive health. Indirect exposure of BPS to the suckling infants via breastmilk is less explored although it can lead to various public health issues. Therefore, we investigated harmful effects of lactational BPS exposure on pre-pubertal and pubertal testicular functions of the offspring and its possible amelioration by melatonin. Lactating dams were divided into 4 groups

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a kind of exogenous chemicals presenting in the human living environment widely which affects the action of endocrine hormones in the human body. Numerous studies have shown that BPA has reproductive toxicity in the spermatogenic function damage of the testes through a variety of mechanisms such as interfering with endocrine function, inducing oxidative stress, promoting spermatogonial cell apoptosis, destroying the integrity of the blood-testis barrier, and regulating epigenetic inheritance, thereby destroying male fertility. Relevant studies have shown that TCM can impro

Substituting bisphenol A (BPA) with analogues could mitigate environmental harm. By mimicking water contamination and using zebrafish larvae, we tested the hypothesis that low environmentally relevant concentrations of BPS, BPF, and BPAF, compared to BPA, elicit physiological and molecular modifications. We verified lethal doses (LD₅₀; BPAF > BPF > BPA > BPS) using an OECD-compliant protocol and reported the absence of morphological and muscle abnormalities, and hatching delays below the LD₅₀ at 5 days post-fertilization (dpf). We identified the lowest bisphenol exposure levels that provoke th

BACKGROUND: Bisphenol A (BPA), a widespread environmental endocrine-disrupting chemical, is suspected to contribute to liver injury, yet the underlying mechanisms, particularly for cholestatic liver injury (CLI), remain poorly defined. This study aims to systematically elucidate the molecular pathways by which BPA induces CLI.
METHODS: We applied an integrated network toxicology approach. BPA targets were predicted using chemical databases (ChEMBL, SwissTargetPrediction, TargetNet), while disease targets for CLI were sourced from GeneCards and OMIM. Bioinformatics analyses, including Gene Ont
