Bronchogenic cysts are rare, congenital cysts originating from respiratory epithelium and typically found within the chest. Cutaneous bronchogenic cysts are exceedingly uncommon, with only 19 reported cases in the scapular region and almost exclusively occurring in male patients. Herein, we present the case of a female patient with recurrent cellulitis secondary to a bronchogenic cyst, which was diagnosed after surgical excision. We also provide a review of the literature to consolidate the current understanding of cutaneous scapular bronchogenic cysts. To our knowledge, this is the first such…

Esophageal bronchogenic cysts are extremely rare. Here we report a more rare type of both presence of intra- and paraesophageal bronchogenic cyst that was safely removed via surgical resection. A 31-year-old male patient with space-occupying lesions in the mediastinum suddenly presented with persistent chest pain for 2 days and then transferred to dysphagia >1 week. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) showed a hypoechoic cystic-solid mass arising from the muscularis propria and local hyperechoic area in the deeper portion of cyst, concomitant with a heterogene…

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital abnormalities generally mediastinal and are frequently detected incidentally. We report a case of a symptomatic mediastinal cyst treated previously by video-assisted thoracoscopy (VATS) but complicated by pericystic adhesions. The subsequent incomplete excision led, after 8 months, to a cyst's recurrence that was accurately drained by endobronchial ultrasonography-guided fine needle aspiration (EBUS-FNA), with no new regrowth after 18 months. We hypothesized that the support of a high-definition diagnostic tool (EBUS) improved the FNA ability to make a deep an…

Bronchogenic cyst a bronchopulmonary foregut malformation. An intramural esophageal localization has rarely been reported in respect to more common esophageal duplications or leiomyoma. The authors describe a case of bronchogenic cyst of the esophageal wall in a 3 years old girl. It was an misdiagnosed cause of dysphagia and was revealed by endoscopy and CT scan after two uneffective antireflux procedures performed in different institutions, which caused a worsening of symptoms. Complete excision of the lesion through a thoractomic approach and a redo of the antireflux procedure were followed …

This case describes a 16-year-old female with papillary thyroid carcinoma who demonstrated persistent iodine uptake in the mediastinum and a pulmonary lesion on post-therapeutic scintigraphy despite an excellent biochemical response. Although fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ([¹⁸F]FDG PET/CT) suggested a benign process, persistent uptake and rising anti-thyroglobulin antibody levels prompted repeat radioiodine therapy and thoracotomy. Histopathological examination revealed a bronchogenic cyst and a vascular malformation, with no evidence of metast…

BACKGROUND: Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital diseases, which are believed to occur through the separation of small diverticula buds from an abnormal budding process in the primitive foregut during the formation of the tracheobronchial tree. Ectopic types located in the thyroid region are extremely rare.
CASE DESCRIPTION: In this study, we present two cases of cervical bronchogenic cysts identified during minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy (MIVAT). The first case involved a 24-year-old male who presented with a persistent neck mass measuring 41 mm in the right cervical regio…

Bronchogenic cysts are a congenital primitive foregut-derived developmental malformation, generally occurring in the posterior mediastinum. Their development in the retroperitoneum is extremely rare. Imaging techniques, such as multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), are typically effective in the detection of these lesions. Here, we describe three cases of a retroperitoneal cyst presenting as a para-adrenal mass. Only one boy presented with abdominal pain, and the other two showed no clinical symptoms. Endocrinological evaluation of all three cases was performed, and no adrenal hormone secr…

A 16-y-old Japanese female was referred to our hospital with a suspicion of infected retroperitoneal cyst. Abdominal CT MRI revealed a 38-mm diameter retroperitoneal cyst under the left diaphragm. Because a retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst was suspected, total resection was planned. In addition, preoperative 3D reconstruction using multidetector CT provided a detailed location of the lesion. Based on the anatomical position, we decided that single-incision laparoscopic surgery with an anterior approach through the umbilicus would be the optimal choice. The lesion was completely resected witho…

PURPOSE: Fine needle aspiration alone has been used as a treatment for bronchogenic cysts, but is subject to a high rate of recurrence. The purpose of this study was to review our experience with computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous large-needle aspiration and bleomycin sclerotherapy of bronchogenic cysts in four patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Four patients with bronchogenic cysts at subcarinal (n = 1), paraspinal (n = 1), or intrapulmonary (n = 2) sites were treated at two medical centers with percutaneous transthoracic aspiration with a 17.5-gauge needle and sclerotherapy with use…

A 74-year-old woman's persistent hyponatraemia led to the discovery of an adenosquamous carcinoma within an intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst (IPBC), diagnosed 59 years prior. This is the first reported case of such a transformation in an IPBC. An adenosquamous carcinoma, originating from an intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst identified 59 years prior, was discovered during the workup for a patient's unexplained, persistent hyponatraemia.

A 65-year-old woman was transported to our hospital by ambulance because of severe dyspnea. She had had a subcutaneous tumor on her anterior … nd smooth muscle cells. Based upon the existence of smooth muscle cells, the tumor was diagnosed as bronchogenic cyst. CABG was performed through mid-sternum about two months after the tumor excision, and the postoperative course was uneventful.

BACKGROUND: Bronchogenic cysts are congenital cysts caused by abnormal sprouting from the ventral foregut during fetal life. They usually occur in the mediastinum or lung, but there are very rare cases of ectopic bronchogenic cysts that develop in the abdominal cavity. A unique intra-abdominal ectopic bronchogenic cyst with a mucinous neoplasm that was producing carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), harboring a GNAS mutation, is reported. The present case may contribute to clarifying the mechanism of tumorigenesis and malignant transformation of ectopic bronchogenic cysts.
CASE SUMMARY: In 2007, a …

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital foregut dysplasia that occur mostly in the lungs and mediastinum. Here, we report a rare case of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst, the location, relationship to adjacent structures and blood supply of which were determined by computed tomography (CT) recombination technology and resected by laparoscope. The case was a 41-year-old female patient. The patient came to the hospital because of intermittent lumbar back discomfort for 1 month. CT scanning revealed a cystic mass of 3.9 cm × 3.2 cm × 3.0 cm behind the left peritoneum. The mass was close to the left ad…

INTRODUCTION: Mediastinal bronchogenic cysts are encountered relatively often, but in many cases, diagnosis using imaging modalities, is difficult. Early surgical excision of bronchogenic cysts is recommended as a diagnostic and therapeutic measure. Here, we report the case of patient with a lower mediastinal bronchogenic cyst, who was treated using thoracoscopic surgery with prone positioning and include a review of literature on diagnosis and treatment of this condition.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: The patient was a 66-year-old woman with an asymptomatic cystic lesion in the posterior, lower medi…
