Crystalline warfarin sodium is an isopropanol clathrate containing 8.3% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and 0.57% water upon receipt. The hygroscopicity and impact of moisture on IPA status as well as on the stability of the clathrate was studied at different relative humidities. The IPA loss and water uptake were simultaneous but they did not exchange at 1:1 molar ratio. At 58% relative humidity (RH) or below, the exchange process was insignificant. The effect of adsorbed substances on the properties of the water in various hydrogel contact lens materials was examined by exposing contact lenses (Hydron Zero 4, B&L 70, DuraSoft 3, Vistamarc, and Acuvue) to an artificial tear solution for various periods up to 14 days. The only materials affected were the high-water/ionic lenses which adsorbed a large amount of protein, predominantly lysozyme. The thermic effect in term infants of intragastric isocaloric amounts of glucose, lipid and amino acid have been compared with control infants given water on the third to fifth days of life. In contrast with adults, the thermic effect of glucose was found to be non-existent and for lipids weak and ill-sustained. In this work, a novel flame retardant containing fluorine and nitrogen was synthesized by using a copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction, resulting in a hydroxyl-terminated compound with a triazole structure.
