Research has shown variable conceptualizations of neighborhood, often inconsistent with administrative boundaries. The present investigation seeks to quantify the geographic area encompassed by citizens' reporting of crime. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a health advisory on the occurrence of severe cases of mpox in immunocompromised patients, namely those with advanced HIV. Treatment options are limited, and very little is known about how to optimally treat patients with severe disease. Herein we describe two cases of severe mpox in Chicago in the setting of advanced HIV and provide suggested guidance for managing cases of severe disease in immunocompromised patients based available data, CDC recommendations, and our experience managing these patients.

We describe the case of a child with progressive abdominal pain and rash admitted to a large tertiary children's hospital in the Chicago metropolitan area and subsequently found to have immunoglobulin A (IgA) vasculitis and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This patient presented with abdominal pain, purpuric lesions, hematochezia, increasingly elevated D-dimer, and abnormal inflammatory markers on laboratory evaluation. To the best of our knowledge, this article describes the only reported pediatric case of COVID-19 associated with IgA vasculitis. [Pediatr Ann. 2021;50(1):e44-e48.].

Herein, we report a novel case of emergency surgical mitral valve replacement for severe mitral valve regurgitation (MR) following MitraClip implantation (Abbott Laboratories, Chicago, IL, USA). Recurrent MR was caused because of the migration of the clip due to the destruction of the mitral valve leaflets with Staphylococcus aureus infective endocarditis. Data are presented on the concentrations of alkylphenol and alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs) and persistent organic compounds in largemouth bass collected from a waste-water dominated stream in downtown Chicago. Isolates of Legionella pneumophila that are serologically different from strains of serogroups 1 through 5 were obtained from lung biopsy tissue or pleural fluid from three renal transplant recipients in Chicago, Ill. These strains were placed in a newly designated L. pneumophila serogroup, serogroup 6, on the basis of fluorescent-antibody staining characteristics. An L. pneumophila strain obtained from Bethesda, Md., one from Houston, Tex., and one from Oxford, England, also belong to this new serogroup. L. pneumophila serogroup 6 appears to be widely distributed geographically.
