The Relationship Between Holistic Humanistic Caring Perception, Thriving at Work and Clinical Nursing Competency Among Newly Graduated Nurses: A Mediation Study With Latent Profile Analysis.

AIM: To identify latent profiles of holistic humanistic caring perception among newly graduated nurses, examine associated factors and assess indirect associations with clinical nursing competency through thriving at work. BACKGROUND: Heterogeneity in caring perception and the role of thriving at work in clinical nursing competency remain unclear. METHODS: A cross-sectional study included 421 newly graduated nurses from six tertiary hospitals. Latent profile analysis, multinomial logistic regression and covariate-adjusted mediation analysis with 5000 bootstrap samples were performed. RESULT

Stability and transitions in positive youth development profiles among adolescents: The role of interpersonal relationships.

Adolescence is a period of significant developmental plasticity, offering opportunities to foster positive strengths. Research has suggested that positive youth development (PYD) varies across individuals and cultures; however, there is still limited understanding of how PYD evolves over time, particularly in non-Western cultural contexts. To address this gap, the current study employed latent profile analysis and latent transition analysis to identify distinct PYD profiles, examine transitions between profiles, and investigate the predictive roles of interpersonal relationships. A total of 16

Reframing vaccine narrative: a co-production study of a media campaign intervention to address childhood vaccine hesitancy among Nigerian parents and caregivers.

INTRODUCTION: Childhood vaccine hesitancy is a public health concern. Nigeria is one of the countries with the highest rates of zero-dose childhood vaccination. This study makes an original contribution by adopting a co-production approach underpinned by interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) to meaningfully inform the co-production of a media campaign intervention with Nigerian parents/ caregivers whose child(ren) are not, or only partially, up to date with routine immunizations aimed at reducing childhood vaccine hesitancy and promoting uptake. METHODS: A total of 10 parents or care

Adolescent Overdose Mortality and Child Protection System Involvement: Evidence from a California Birth Cohort, 2000-2005.

Objectives. To examine overdose mortality across 4 levels of child protection system (CPS) involvement during childhood. Methods. Using integrated vital birth, death, and CPS records of California births (2000-2005) followed through 2024 (n = 3 208 771), we identified 747 adolescent overdose decedents and matched each to 4 comparison adolescents (n = 2988). We categorized CPS exposure as no contact, referral, substantiated referral, or foster care. Using conditional Poisson regression, we estimated overdose prevalence by CPS involvement level. Results. Overall, 69.9% of decedents had at least

Associations between maternal adverse childhood experiences and mind-mindedness: An analysis of mother-infant interaction.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can influence parenting behaviours and have lasting effects on child development. This study investigated how maternal ACEs affect mind-mindedness during interactions between 69 Brazilian mothers and their six-month-old infants, and the role of stress in this relationship. Maternal vocalisations were coded for appropriate and non-attuned mind-related comments according to the Mind-Mindedness Coding Manual. The number of maternal ACEs was assessed using the CDC-Kaiser ACE Study Questionnaire. Current stress, postnatal depression, depression, anxiety, adverse

Dissociative symptoms in school-aged adopted children who experienced maternal separation and disruptive caregiving in infancy.

Amounting findings on maternal separation and early disturbed caregiving suggest that this type of early experience negatively influences socioemotional development and may be associated with behavioral and mental health problems in later life. Concerning previously published studies, we have assessed if maternal separation and disrupted caregiving before adoption in infancy could be related to heightened levels of dissociative symptoms and behavioral problems in middle childhood. We involved 30 children (sample S1) who had experienced maternal separation after birth and short-term institution

Strategic positioning of immunization at the heart of Africa's health and development agenda.

Immunization is one of the greatest public health achievements of all times, preventing millions of deaths and making major improvements in child survival in Africa. Beyond protecting against infectious diseases, vaccines foster educational attainment, productivity, and poverty reduction, while mitigating antimicrobial resistance and economic shocks. However, each year more than 9.5 million children in the World Health Organization African Region remain under-vaccinated, resulting in recurrent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. In 2024 alone, 59 outbreaks were reported across the regio

A new familial case of microdeletion syndrome 10p15.3.

In 2012 a small terminal deletion in the short arm of chromosome 10 in the region 10p15.3 was reported as a novel microdeletion syndrome. By now 21 patients, including a single familial case, have been reported. Characteristic findings comprise variable cognitive impairment or developmental delay, disorder of speech development, as well as various dysmorphic signs. We here report on a new patient, an eight year old girl, with a microdeletion syndrome 10p15.3. She is a foster child showing intellectual deficits, disorder of speech development, behavioral problems, congenital heart defect, and s

The role of men as partners and fathers in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and in the promotion of sexual and reproductive health.

Despite ample evidence documenting the positive impact of men on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) and other sexual and reproductive health programs, men's engagement remains very low. This paper examines the current level and nature of male involvement and identifies opportunities for the advancement of men's constructive engagement in PMTCT and sexual and reproductive health. Conceptual and policy barriers have encouraged the inadvertent exclusion of men from PMTCT and other reproductive health services. The historic institutionalization of reproductive health as women's

Acute splenic sequestration crisis in sickle cell disease: early detection and treatment.

Acute splenic sequestration crisis (ASSC) in children with various forms of sickle cell disease can result in life-threatening circulatory collapse due to the loss of circulating blood volume. Over a 6-year period we have treated 12 patients ranging in age from 5 1/2 months to 7 years presenting with acute sequestration crisis. Eleven had homozygous sickle cell disease and the other had sickle-thalassemia. One patient died of acute circulatory collapse. Eight patients underwent splenectomy after a major episode of sequestration with no serious infectious complications up to 5 years following s

Parents' Self-efficacy for Tobacco Exposure Protection and Smoking Abstinence Mediate Treatment Effects on Child Cotinine at 12-Month Follow-up: Mediation Results from the Kids Safe and Smokefree Trial.

INTRODUCTION: Compared with the general smoking population, low-income smokers face elevated challenges to success in evidence-based smoking cessation treatment. Moreover, their children bear increased disease burden. Understanding behavioral mechanisms related to successful reduction of child tobacco smoke exposure (TSE) could inform future smoking interventions in vulnerable, underserved populations. METHODS: Smoking parents were recruited from pediatric clinics in low-income communities and randomized into a multilevel intervention including a pediatric clinic intervention framed in best c

The child abuse reporting laws: an ethical dilemma for professionals.

A central issue in the development of family law and child protection in this country has been the right of the state to intervene in family life. The reporting laws, which were developed in the 1960s, made it mandatory for any citizen, including professionals, to report child abuse (physical and sexual) to the authorities. These laws have fundamentally altered the relationship between the clinician and families in need of help and have resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of cases assessed and treated by child welfare agencies. Because of the emphasis on case-finding, the limited res

Socioeconomic position, family context, and child cognitive development.

Socioeconomic position (SEP) may have different effects on cognitive development and family context could play a role in this association. This work aimed to analyse the role of socioeconomic positions, measured via various indicators collected longitudinally, in cognitive development at 7-11 years of age, evaluating the role of family context as a potential mediator. The study sample included 394 and 382 children from the INMA Gipuzkoa and Valencia cohorts, respectively. SEP indicators were assessed during pregnancy (family social class, parental education, employment, and disposable income)
