Promiscuous T cell epitopes boosts specific IgM immune response against a P0 peptide antigen from sea lice in different teleost species.

The development of vaccines employing conserved protein antigens, for instance ribosomal protein P0, has as disadvantage the high degree of identity between pathogen and host proteins due to possible induction of tolerance or auto antibodies in the host organism. To overcome this drawback, peptide-based vaccines have been designed with a proved high efficacy. The use of defined peptides as antigens has the problem that they are generally poor immunogenic unless coupled to a carrier protein. Several studies have established the potential for promiscuous T cell epitopes incorporated into chimeri

Rapid decreases in salinity, but not increases, lead to immune dysregulation in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.).

Rapid changes in salinity, as with other environmental stressors, can have detrimental effects on fish and may trigger increased susceptibility to disease. However, the precise mechanisms of these effects are not well understood. We examined the effects of sudden increases or decreases in salinity on teleost immune function using Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.), as the fish model in a battery of bioassays of increasing immune system specificity. Two different salinity experiments were performed: one of increasing salinity (0 to 5, 10 and 20 g L(-1) ) and one of decreasing salinity (20

Dietary myo-inositol exerts pleiotropic effects on T cell activation, antioxidant defense and fatty acid metabolism to enhance anti-bacterial immunity in tilapia.

Bacterial diseases cause major economic losses in aquaculture, underscoring the need for feed additives that enhance fish immunity. Myo-inositol (MI), an essential nutrient for fish growth, possesses antioxidant and lipid-metabolism modulating properties. However, the role of MI in regulating T cell function remains unclear. In this study, Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) individuals were fed diets containing 850 or 1700 mg/kg MI to evaluate its effects on T cell immunity. The results demonstrated that dietary MI at 850 mg/kg significantly enhanced host anti-bacterial immunity in Nile tila

Time-series transcriptomic analysis of Nile tilapia reveals the crucial roles of long non-coding RNA and transcription factor in response to Aeromonas veronii infection.

Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is a vital aquaculture species worldwide, prized for its rapid growth and high productivity. However, the increasing prevalence of Aeromonas veronii infections has led to significant economic losses in the Nile tilapia industry. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the host immune response, we performed transcriptome sequencing of Nile tilapia spleen tissues at 3, 7, and 10 days post-infection. Furthermore, weighted gene co-expression network analysis was employed to identify key genes and pathways, and a regulatory network was subsequently cons

Withania somnifera dietary supplementation improves lipid profile, intestinal histomorphology in healthy Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), and modulates cytokines response to Streptococcus infection.

Despite Withania somnifera (WS), stimulating effects have been investigated on many animal species, its role on lipid profile and intestinal histomorphology in healthy animals, and its modulating role on pro-inflammatory cytokines following infection in fish are yet scarce. In this context, lipid profile, liver, and intestinal histomorphology were measured in Nile tilapia fed with a basal diet or diets containing 2.5 and 5% of supplementary WS for 60 days. Besides, cytokines response was measured at 1, 3,7, and 14 days following Streptococcus iniae (S. iniae) infection after the feeding trial.

S6K1/S6 axis-regulated lymphocyte activation is important for adaptive immune response of Nile tilapia.

Ribosomal protein S6 kinase beta-1 (S6K1) is a serine/threonine kinase downstream of the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, and plays crucial roles in immune regulation. Although remarkable progress has been achieved with a mouse model, how S6K1 regulates adaptive immunity is largely unknown in early vertebrates. In this study, we identified an S6K1 from Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (OnS6K1), and further investigated its potential regulatory role on the adaptive immunity of this fish species. Both sequence and structure of OnS6K1 were highly conserved with its homologs from

Effects of Blue Light Toward Emmetropization.

Emmetropization was thought to result from a genetically determined process until later discoveries found that myopia could be induced, which implied that environmental factors, even modest changes, can affect eye growth under local retinal control. Humans are born with refractive errors and emmetropize into a refractive state of no error during the developmental period. For many years, it has not yet been clearly known how the eye determines the sign of defocus during the developmental period. This review aimed to study the effects of blue light on emmetropization, especially in this digital

Dietary Soybean and Kappaphycus sp. Differentially Modulate Gut Microbiota Diversity and Predicted Functional Profile in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

Diet composition shapes gut microbiota, influencing nutrient utilization, health, and growth. The shift toward sustainable ingredients such as soybean meal (SB) and seaweed (SW) requires an understanding of their effects on the gut microbiota. This study investigated how SB and SW diets modulate gut microbiota and predicted functional profile in Nile tilapia. Fish were assigned to four dietary treatments for 62 days: fishmeal (FM), SB, SW, and a natural meal (NM, non-formulated diet). Gut microbiota were characterized using 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and functional potential was inferred using
