Comparative Analysis of Seizure Clusters in Patients with and Without a History of Epilepsy Presenting to the Emergency Department.

Seizure clusters can be observed in patients with epilepsy as well as in individuals without a previous history of epilepsy. However, there are no data on whether seizure clusters differ between these two populations. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical presentation, diagnostic findings, presence of seizure triggers, outcomes and complications of seizure clusters in patients with epilepsy and individuals without epilepsy in their medical history. The results indicate that epilepsy history was not independently associated with the number of seizures during cluster; however

Modulation of the Product Upon the Reaction of CO2 With Dimethylamine Cluster: A Topological Analysis of the Reaction Mechanism.

The capture, activation, and reaction of carbon dioxide with dimethylamine (DMA) clusters have been investigated theoretically in the gas phase. The electronic structure of various compounds has been obtained using the density functional theory approach. The partitioning of the reaction path into different domains of structural stability has been done within the framework of the electron localization function (ELF) analysis. It has been found that DMA cluster size is a key parameter in modulating CO2 conversion, both energetically and structurally. It has been shown that as the size of DMA clu

The impact of multimorbidity on Quality of Life in inflammatory myopathies: A cluster analysis from the COVAD dataset.

OBJECTIVE: The presence of comorbidities can substantially affect patients' quality of life, but data regarding their impact on idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are limited. METHODS: We examined the prevalence of comorbidities in IIM patients, other autoimmune rheumatic diseases (oAIRDs) and healthy controls (HCs), using data from the self-reported COVAD-2 survey. We defined basic multimorbidity (BM) as the presence of ≥2 non-rheumatic chronic conditions and complex multimorbidity (CM) as the presence of ≥3 non-rheumatic chronic conditions affecting ≥3 organ systems. Hierarchical clu

Identification of Clusters in a Population With Obesity Using Machine Learning: Secondary Analysis of The Maastricht Study.

BACKGROUND: Modern lifestyle risk factors, like physical inactivity and poor nutrition, contribute to rising rates of obesity and chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Particularly personalized interventions have been shown to be effective for long-term behavior change. Machine learning can be used to uncover insights without predefined hypotheses, revealing complex relationships and distinct population clusters. New data-driven approaches, such as the factor probabilistic distance clustering algorithm, provide opportunities to identify potentially meaningful clusters within

Comparing symptom clusters in cancer survivors by cancer diagnosis: A latent class profile analysis.

PURPOSE: Research on symptom clusters in oncology is progressing, but knowledge gaps remain. One question is whether the number and types of symptom subgroups (i.e., latent classes) differ based on cancer diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to: (1) identify and compare latent class subgroups based on four highly prevalent symptoms (pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, and depression), and (2) examine the differences in sociodemographic and clinical factors in the identified latent classes across the seven cancer types (i.e., prostate, non-small cell lung, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, breast, uter

Introducing Diinamic, a flexible and robust method for clustering analysis in single-molecule localization microscopy.

Super-resolution microscopy allowed major improvements in our capacity to describe and explain biological organization at the nanoscale. Single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) uses the positions of molecules to create super-resolved images, but it can also provide new insights into the organization of molecules through appropriate pointillistic analyses that fully exploit the sparse nature of SMLM data. However, the main drawback of SMLM is the lack of analytical tools easily applicable to the diverse types of data that can arise from biological samples. Typically, a cloud of detection

A Bioinformatic Pipeline for Improved Genome Analysis and Clustering of Isolates during Outbreaks of Legionnaires' Disease.

Legionnaires' disease, a severe lung infection caused by the bacterium Legionella pneumophila, occurs as single cases or in outbreaks that are actively tracked by public health departments. To determine the point source of an outbreak, clinical isolates need to be compared to environmental samples to find matching isolates. One confounding factor is the genome plasticity of L. pneumophila, making an exact sequence comparison by whole-genome sequencing (WGS) challenging. Here, we present a WGS analysis pipeline, LegioCluster, that is designed to circumvent this problem by automatically selectin

Are there subgroups within the autistic spectrum? A cluster analysis of a group of children with autistic spectrum disorders.

Comprehensive data on the developmental history and current behaviours of a large sample of high-functioning individuals with diagnoses of autism, Asperger's syndrome, or other related disorder were collected via parent interviews. This provided the basis for a taxonomic analysis to search for subgroups. Most participants also completed theory of mind tasks. Three clusters or subgroups were obtained; these differed on theory of mind performance and on verbal abilities. Although subgroups were identified which bore some relationship to clinical differentiation of autistic, Asperger syndrome, an

Molecular dynamics and clustering analysis of self-assembled biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles for insulin encapsulation.

Self-assembled biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles are promising carriers for protein therapeutics such as insulin, whose clinical administration remains challenging. Accordingly, we used molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate how poly (lactic acid) (PLA), poly (ethylene glycol)-PLA (PEG-PLA), poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), PEG-PLGA, and methoxy-PEG (mPEG)-PLGA oligomers self-assemble on the insulin surface. We further applied essential dynamics and K-means clustering analyses to evaluate protein motions and characterize oligomer assembly states, respectively. We observed
