Beyond silos: Drivers and barriers to intersectoral collaboration in zoonotic disease surveillance and response in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, Ghana.

The One Health approach has gained global traction as a strategy to combat zoonotic diseases, which account for 60-75% of emerging infectious diseases. While effective surveillance requires intersectoral collaboration, challenges such as fragmented systems, resource constraints, and weak coordination hinder efforts, particularly in low- and middle-income countries like Ghana. This qualitative study explores the factors influencing collaboration in zoonotic disease surveillance and response at the operational level, providing insights to strengthen intersectoral collaboration and improve public

What are the characteristics and impacts of a patient-led conference? A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Patient engagement is the practice of "meaningful and active collaboration [of patient partners] in governance, priority setting, conducting research and knowledge translation." Patient engagement has been implemented in various settings including clinical, research, and quality improvement, with varying levels of patient contributions and decision-making responsibility. However, little is known about the experiences of patient partners who are in leadership roles in patient-led events. For Patients, By Patients (PxP) is an annual, virtual, patient-led conference that focuses on to

Prevention of early childhood caries in France, potential perspectives for interprofessional action: a scoping review.

Early childhood caries (tooth decays) is a severe oral health condition that develops under the age of six. In many countries, oral health (including cavity treatment) is provided solely by dentists, who work independently. This organizational structure results in missed opportunities to prevent illnesses that occur throughout the child's health pathway, from birth and even before. The article aims to describe existing strategies for interprofessionality in pediatric oral health, as well as the obstacles and facilitators to their implementation. A scoping review was conducted on PubMed, Web of

Allyship in Healthcare for People With Learning Disabilities as a Praxis of Respect, Attention and Collaborative Action.

There is a dearth of literature focusing on how allyship in health may be enacted in relation to people with learning disabilities (LD). This is concerning, because people with LD are vulnerable to health inequalities and forms of medical dehumanisation including do-not-resuscitate orders, diagnostic overshadowing and overprescription of psychotropic drugs. Deploying critical disability studies as a lens through which to understand disability, this paper reviews models of disability allyship developed in healthcare, research and theatre. In doing so it advocates transformative allyship as a mo

Development and provider assessment of a new oncology network with care pathways for gastrointestinal cancer patients: the collaborative approach.

BACKGROUND: In an era of increasing demands on healthcare services, the development of regional oncology networks including care pathways may be instrumental to improve the efficiency and quality of care. However, developing such networks involving numerous stakeholders and hospitals is challenging as no templates exist. This study evaluates the development of a large regional network with the objective to provide a practical template. METHODS: A multicentre survey was conducted between October 1, 2024 and January 31, 2025. Clinicians from the departments of medical oncology, surgery, gastroe

Geriatricians Leading Innovation: Collaborating to Enhance Care as We Age.

In the early 20th century, Geriatric Medicine emerged as a specialty with a focus on improving the health and quality of life of older adults. Almost since inception, geriatricians have worked in collaboration with other medical specialties and health professionals to achieve this goal. This focus on collaboration has led to innovations that are improving care for older adults across settings of care, some of which are being led by other specialties (e.g., the Geriatric Surgery Verification Program). In 2015, Geriatric Medicine began to recruit fellows through the National Resident Matching Pr

Developing palliative and end-of-life care research partnerships in the North East and North Cumbria: A report on the first year of the RIPEN network.

BACKGROUND: The North East is one of the most disadvantaged areas of England with end-of-life care needs shaped by high levels of disability, physical and mental ill health. This programme of work aimed to set the foundation for the development of a palliative and end-of-life care research community, equipped to meet local and national challenges. OBJECTIVES: Develop a self-sustaining research culture in North East palliative and end-of-life care. Build research collaborations around older age, frailty, multiple long-term conditions and inequalities and submit at least one research proposal.

Friends on the Other Side: Receptiveness to Opposing Views Predicts Formation of Politically Heterogeneous Relationships.

Growing evidence points to the corrosive influence of partisanship on society. We examine the relationship between "receptiveness to opposing views" (i.e., an individual difference in the willingness to engage with information from opposing perspectives) and the propensity to form positive and close collaborative relationships with ideologically opposed others. Across three studies varying in sampling and methodological approaches-a retrospective network study, a time-lagged field study, and an experiment-we find that individual and mutual receptiveness mitigate the negative influence of ideol

Collaboration in action: successful implementation of a learner-driven virtual interprofessional education curriculum in the clinical learning environment.

Though technological capabilities to provide high-quality, flexible interprofessional education (IPE) have continued to grow, this remains a largely undeveloped area in the clinical learning environment (CLE). To address this gap, the University of Minnesota launched the Collaboration in Action: Learner-Driven Curriculum (CIA-LDC) as an IPE model designed for sustainability in a post-pandemic world. Over the course of two academic years, the CIA-LDC framework evolved and expanded through an iterative, data-informed approach incorporating student feedback, academic programme co-creation, evolvi

The mediating effect of empathy in the quadratic relationship between children's resting RSA and sharing behavior.

The present study examined the mediating role of empathy in the quadratic relationship (an inverted U-shaped curve) between resting RSA and sharing behavior in 7- to 8-year-old children. Sharing behavior was measured using children's allocation of resources in the dictator game; the Griffith Empathy Scale-Chinese version was used to assess children's empathy. Resting RSA was calculated by electrocardiogram (ECG) data collected during a resting period in the laboratory. The results demonstrated a significant mediating effect of empathy in the quadratic association between resting RSA and sharin

Collaboration of Care for Women with Epilepsy in their Reproductive Years.

Over half a million women of childbearing age have epilepsy, many of which will require family planning care at some point in their reproductive years. Matters relating to contraception, pregnancy, fertility, and sexual functioning are all impacted to varying degrees by the use of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat epilepsy and require active management by a woman's neurologist. It is important that a woman's obstetrician/gynecologist (OBGYN) and internist are aware of the way in which their care may be related to her epilepsy care and how this can be successfully comanaged with her neurologi

Principles for central nervous system inflammation research: A call for a consortium approach.

INTRODUCTION: Neuroinflammation is now considered to be of pathophysiologic significance in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. Nonetheless, there is no consensus as to what inflammatory mechanisms need to be combated (or facilitated), how therapies for them should be applied, or when they might be efficacious. METHODS: This article seeks to put forward cornerstone facts about neuroinflammation, with suggestions for future directions. RESULTS: Multiple scientific points about neuroinflammation still remain unaddressed. The main issue, however, is political. An expert

"Referendum on Sunday, working group on Monday": A success story of implementing abortion services after legalization in Portugal.

A 2007 referendum legalized abortion in Portugal. Physicians played an important role advocating for legal reform and providing services thereafter. Implementers relied on a strong public health system with many gynecologists who required minimal training, and took decisions that allowed for rapid implementation. First, they emphasized medical abortion and integrated abortion into existing hospital obstetrics and gynecologic services, where eventual complications could be managed. They also offered immediate postabortion contraception, helping prevent criticism from abortion opponents who fear

Wicked Problem Solvers.

Companies today increasingly rely on teams that span many industries for radical innovation, especially to solve "wicked problems." So leaders have to understand how to promote collaboration when roles are uncertain, goals are shifting, expertise and organizational cultures are varied, and participants have clashing or even antagonistic perspectives. HBS professor Amy Edmondson has studied more than a dozen cross-industry innovation projects, among them the creation of a new city, a mango supply-chain transformation, and the design and construction of leading-edge buildings. She has identified

A qualitative analysis of aspects of treatment that adolescents with anorexia identify as helpful.

This study aimed to identify aspects of treatment that adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN) believe are helpful or unhelpful. Adolescent females receiving treatment for AN or subthreshold AN (n=21) were prompted during semi-structured interviews to generate responses to open-ended questions on what they felt would be most helpful or unhelpful in treating adolescents with eating disorders. Eight codes were developed and the two most frequently endorsed categories were (1) Alliance, where the therapist demonstrates clinical expertise and also expresses interest in the patient (n=21, 100.0%), a
