Diameter-driven variation in wood CO2 efflux across the stems and crowns of three temperate broadleaf tree species.

A major constraint on modelling woody-tissue CO₂ efflux is the scarcity of datasets that adequately represent its variability and underlying drivers. We intensively sampled CO₂ efflux along the vertical profile of nine temperate broadleaf trees across three species and found substantial longitudinal variation. We partitioned the flux into growth and maintenance-associated components; accordingly we use 'efflux' for measurements and 'respiration' only for the derived components. Expressing efflux by wood volume, surface area and sapwood volume each offered insight into the underpinning of the f

Evaluation of color stability, wear, and fracture resistance of preformed Bioflx and zirconia crowns: An in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: The ideal crowns for primary teeth should be esthetic, durable, and easy to place. Preformed zirconia crowns, although the most commonly used, esthetically pleasing, require significant tooth reduction, lack flexibility and adjustability, and cause wear of opposing teeth. Recently, new high-strength, medical-grade resin polymer preformed crowns have been introduced, promising to address these limitations. AIM: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate and compare the color stability, wear, and fracture resistance of newly introduced resin polymer crowns (Bioflx) with preformed zirconi…

Functionally graded bi-material interface for Porcelain Veneered Zirconia dental crowns: A study using viscoelastic finite element analysis.

OBJECTIVES: During the manufacturing of Porcelain Veneered Zirconia (PVZ) dental crowns, the veneer-core system undergoes high-temperature firing cycles and gets fused together which is then, under a controlled setting, cooled down to room temperature. During this cooling process, the mismatch in thermal properties between zirconia and porcelain leads to the development of transient and residual thermal stresses within the crown. These thermal stresses are inherent to the PVZ dental crown systems and render the crown structure weak, acting as a precursor to veneer chipping, fracture, and delam…

[Compressive stress in three types of finishing lines with lithium disilicate crowns in permanent teeth: finite element analysis].

INTRODUCTION: In oral rehabilitation, the use of ceramic restorations is widely accepted due to its aesthetic capacity to mimic the naturalness of the dental tissue, provide longevity of the material, and present a greater marginal fit compared to crowns with a metal structure. Termination lines are biological preparations whose function is to minimize the cervical opening of the marginal seal. Consequently, analyzing the behavior of restorative materials under compressive forces decreases the risk of fracture and increases the success of the treatment. OBJECTIVE: To compare the compressive s…
