Digital Play Addiction Tendency and Aggressive Behaviors Among Turkish Preschoolers: Evidence from Parent Reports.

The escalating exposure of young children to digital gaming necessitates a critical examination of its behavioral impacts. However, evidence … early childhood. This study underscores the urgent need to develop strategies that foster healthier digital media consumption and mitigate the adverse effects of digital gaming on children's developmental outcomes.

Selecting and testing cultural symbols for character IP: evidence from Mount Tai, China.

INTRODUCTION: In the context of cultural digitalization, how to translate grand cultural heritage into character IP (a proprietary character circulated across media and merchandise, e.g., Kumamon, Labubu) with communicative power and emotional appeal is an important issue for enhancing cultural identity and cultural tourism transformation. METHODS: Taking the cultural symbols of Mount Tai as an example, this study constructs an entropy weight-TOPSIS (EWM-TOPSIS) evaluation model and a structural equation model (SEM) to conduct an empirical analysis from two levels: symbol selection and audien

Transforming educator expectations in public health, nursing, and medicine: a two-phase survey on digital tools in education.

The digital transformation of healthcare education has accelerated significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting traditional, practice-oriented teaching towards digital methodologies. Before the pandemic, digital teaching was minimally adopted and lacked systematic strategies, especially in Germany’s higher education institutions. This study comprised two cross-sectional online surveys among university faculty in public health, nursing, and medicine—conducted in 2020 and 2021—with a total of 238 participants. The surveys explored the use of digital tools, satisfaction with digital teach

Popular digital sovereignty and digital real utopias: Lessons from the Homeless Workers' Movement in Brazil.

This article traces the ongoing construction of "popular digital sovereignty" within Brazil's Homeless Workers' Movement (MTST), through its Tech Sector, arguing that the concept itself operates as a digital real utopia: an aspirational horizon made workable through imperfect and situated practice. Rather than treating digital sovereignty as a state-centric policy project, the movement frames popular digital sovereignty as a from-below definition forged through epistemic sovereignty, the collective control over how knowledge is produced, debated, and circulated inside and beyond the movement.

Digital legacy in palliative care and end-of-life care planning: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: The need for palliative care is increasing, and it is essential to consider emerging technologies that have the potential to enhance care for palliative patients and their carers. The creation of online content and digital media stored on devices is often described as a digital legacy. There is limited knowledge about how digital legacy is included in planning for the end of life. AIMS: To conduct a scoping review of the literature to describe healthcare professionals, patients receiving palliative care, caregivers and bereaved people's experience of including digital legacy in pl…

Changed detection: No relationship between working memory and media usage in Covid-era and contemporary young adults.

A decade ago, the widespread adoption of smartphones prompted research assessing the effects of media multitasking on cognitive performance. Early findings showed that high media multitasking imposed a significant cost to attention and executive function. Here, we revisited whether the harmful effects of media multitasking persist in digital native undergraduates, in whom nearly all media usage involves multitasking. We investigated the relationship between media usage and working memory (WM) performance. Across six experiments, we conducted online and in-person testing, using simultaneous or

Advocacy Communication and Social Identity: An Exploration of Social Media Outreach.

Increasingly, advocacy organizations employ social networking sites as inexpensive and often effective ways to disseminate outreach messages. For groups working to reach lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth, social media provide key platforms for connecting with target audiences. Although these young people increasingly utilize social media, little is known about how digital advocacy campaigns influence their sexual identity formation. This article applies concepts of social identity to examine how LGBTQ youth understand advocacy campaigns, how they perceive LGBTQ as a

Nasopharyngeal polyps in cats.

Nasopharyngeal polyps are non-neoplastic, inflammatory growths that arise from the middle ear or the eustachian tube and extend into the pharynx. The exact etiology of nasopharyngeal polyps is unclear; proposed etiologies include a response to chronic upper respiratory tract infection, chronic otitis media, ascending infection from the nasopharynx, or a congenital origin. Clinical signs usually relate to obstruction of the nasopharynx, with Horner's syndrome and head tilt being consistent with otitis media and otitis interna, respectively. Diagnostic tools include digital or visual examination

Dark shadows of screen: How Dark Tetrad traits, social identity, and binge-watching fuel digital fatigue.

In an era of streaming saturation, understanding why individuals repeatedly engage in prolonged viewing and how such behavior relates to well-being has become increasingly important. This study examines the associations among Dark Tetrad personality traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy, and sadism), binge-watching behavior, and digital fatigue, and tests whether social identity formation moderates these relationships. Using survey data from 402 participants (Mage = 26.3 years; 51% female), we employed structural equation modeling with robust estimation and 5000-sample bootstrapped

Problematic Internet Use in Frontotemporal Dementia: A Case Series.

The present study investigated problematic internet use (PIU) among 61 patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) compared to a cohort of 354 patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's dementia. PIU was identified in 22.9% of FTD patients compared to only 0.8% of AD patients (p < 0.001). Behaviors included compulsive social media use, gaming, and online shopping. These findings suggest that PIU may represent an emerging behavioral feature associated with FTD, significantly more prevalent than in MCI and Alzheimer's dementia. Recognizing these digital behaviors could provide

Social media addiction, self-concept clarity, and social media fatigue: a two-wave longitudinal study.

Although social media addiction has been linked to numerous negative psychological outcomes, the self-level processes underlying the connection between this addiction and psychological burnout have not been sufficiently elucidated. This study examined whether self-concept clarity plays a mediating role in the longitudinal relationship between social media addiction and social media fatigue in a sample of Turkish adults. Conducted using a two-wave cross-lagged panel design, the study collected data from 344 adults (Mage = 34.06, SD = 8.81; 68% female) at two different measurement points three m

Adult attachment and problematic social media use: a daily measure study.

Attachment theory provides a valuable framework for understanding individual vulnerability to problematic social media use (PSMU). Previous research has found consistent evidence that PSMU is associated with increased attachment anxiety, whereas the role of attachment avoidance remains unclear. Most studies have relied on cross-sectional designs and measures that may fail to distinguish intensive from maladaptive engagement with social media. In this study, we adopted a daily diary approach in a community sample of adults (N = 89; 77.5% female; mean age = 23.64 ± 5.92 years, range = 20-50) to

Problematic social media use and eating behaviors in adolescence: gender-based differences.

BACKGROUND: Adolescence is a key period for shaping eating behaviors. Social media, central to identity formation and peer interaction, may influence diet through appearance-related mechanisms, with possible gender differences. This study investigated associations between social media use, addiction, and disorder with eating behaviors among Turkish adolescents, focusing on the mediating role of appearance-related social media consciousness. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 487 high school students aged 14-18 years in Manavgat, Antalya, Türkiye. Measures included the Social

Screens and society: how media narratives influence fertility and reshape childbearing choices; a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Declining fertility rates pose a significant challenge to global demographic stability. Factors such as shifting societal norms, economic constraints, and women’s empowerment intersect with media influence to shape reproductive behaviors. This systematic review examines the multifaceted role of media including television, radio, social networks, and online platforms in affecting fertility intentions, contraceptive use, and childbearing decisions. METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar un

Depression and social media addiction among teenagers in a longitudinal study with dual moderation.

Depression has been consistently associated with social media addiction, yet the psychological processes underlying this relationship remain insufficiently understood. The present study aimed to examine the longitudinal association between depression and social media addiction among teenagers, with particular attention to the potential moderating roles of difficulty describing feelings and experiential avoidance. A three-wave longitudinal study was conducted with 3,184 teenagers from China. Participants completed self-report measures assessing depression, social media addiction, difficulty des

Physical activity as a moderator between problematic social media use and mental health in adolescents.

In this study, we first explored the independent associations of problematic social media use and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) with mental health outcomes measured by symptoms of depression and anxiety. Second, we examined whether MVPA moderates the relationship between problematic social media use and mental health outcomes and whether this moderating effect differs between sexes. A total of 130 adolescents (girls = 86, boys = 44, mean age = 14.2 ± 0.3 years) participated in this study. MVPA was measured using a thigh-worn triaxial accelerometer, social media use was tracked

Commentary on: Social media use, mental health, and suicide-related outcomes in Russian women: A cross-sectional comparison between two age groups.

Brailovskaia et al. identified problematic social media use as a partial mediator between daily stress and suicide-related outcomes and found that positive mental health weakened the association between problematic social media use and such outcomes. This commentary argues that the moderating role of positive mental health warrants greater attention because it points to a preventive strategy beyond reducing problematic online engagement. Strengthening emotional, psychological, and social well-being may buffer individuals from the effects of stress and maladaptive digital behaviors, particularl
