Toward high-selectivity CO2 photoelectroreduction: mechanistic foundations, recent advances and challenges.

Photoelectrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (PEC CO2RR) is a promising strategy for converting CO2 into high-value chemicals that contribute to carbon neutrality. However, CO2 reduction is often accompanied by various competitive reaction pathways in the actual reaction process, which may generate a variety of products. The selective regulation of different products not only directly affects the yield and separation cost of the target product, but also influences the energy efficiency and economic feasibility of the whole process. Improving product selectivity is essential for incre

Design of a multi-epitope recombinant BCG vaccine targeting Brucella OMP31, LptE and VirB2 in immunoinformatics approaches.

Brucellosis, caused by the intracellular pathogen Brucella, remains a significant health challenge, alongside substantial economic impacts on livestock industries. Despite antibiotic treatments, the absence of licensed human vaccines necessitates innovative preventive strategies. In this study, we employed reverse vaccinology to design a novel multi-epitope vaccine (MEV) targeting Brucella melitensis. Three immunogenic proteins-outer membrane protein OMP31, LPS assembly protein LptE, and the type IV secretion system protein VirB2-were selected as vaccine candidates. Comprehensive bioinformatic

Development of a TaqMan polymerase chain reaction detection method for the precise identification and quantification of an attenuated Eimeria maxima vaccine strain in poultry.

Avian coccidiosis, a parasitic disease prevalent in poultry, is caused by Eimeria species and leads to significant economic losses. The use of attenuated live oocyst vaccines has been adopted as an alternative to the use of anticoccidial drugs. However, the accurate detection and differentiation of vaccine strains from virulent ones remain challenging. Therefore, this study presents a novel TaqMan polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection method that offers enhanced sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility compared with traditional PCR techniques. Through whole-genome resequencing and bio

The Committed Intimate Partnerships of Incarcerated African-American Men: Implications for Sexual HIV Transmission Risk and Prevention Opportunities.

Incarceration is thought to influence HIV transmission by disrupting partnerships that provide support and protect against sex risk-taking. Current correctional facility-based family-strengthening programs focus on marital partnerships, a minority of inmates' partnerships. Research on the sex partnerships of incarcerated African-American men and the types of partnerships most likely to protect against HIV-related sex risk is limited. Improved understanding can inform expansion of correctional facility-based family-strengthening programs to a greater proportion of protective partnerships and HI

Molecular Programming of CRISPR Diagnostics: From Target Recognition to Field Deployment.

Rapid and accurate diagnostics are essential for controlling emerging infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance, yet CRISPR assays with exceptional analytical sensitivity often remain difficult to translate into deployable tests. Existing reviews have commonly organized CRISPR diagnostics by Cas effector, biosensor format, or application, offering limited guidance on how design decisions interact across complete workflows or why promising systems remain at the proof-of-concept stage. We introduce an integrated framework that connects five coupled design layers with five levels of transl

Multilayer Timing of Cardiac Circadian Regulation Informs Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death and economic burden worldwide. Increasing evidence indicates that sleep disturbance and circadian rhythm disruption are major risk drivers for hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and arrhythmia. Although the classical transcription-translation feedback loop (TTFL) model explains the basic mechanism of rhythm generation, increasing evidence suggests that the heart-an organ with high metabolic demand-maintains circadian stability through coordinated transcriptional, translational, and post-translational regul

Removal of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and nanoplastics from water using selected nanomaterial-based membranes: A review.

Nanomaterial-based membranes have emerged as promising candidates for advanced water purification because of their unique physicochemical properties and versatile functionalities. MXenes, MOFs, and GO were selected because they represent complementary membrane platforms: MXenes provide hydrophilic and conductive lamellar channels, MOFs offer tunable porosity and adsorption sites, and GO supplies oxygenated functional groups and two-dimensional transport pathways. MXene-based membranes exhibit strong hydrophilicity, tunable surface termination, and high conductivity, which facilitate the remova

Fabrication of lithium silicate sorbents from dual waste precursors: Recycled lithium and glass powder for carbon dioxide capture.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a vital strategy for mitigating global climate change, with the development of efficient and low-cost carbon dioxide (CO2) sorbents being central to its widespread implementation. Although lithium silicate (Li4SiO4) exhibits excellent cyclic stability as a high-temperature CO2 sorbent, its large-scale application is limited by the high cost of lithium precursors. This work proposes the low-cost strategy for CO2 capture by synthesizing Li4SiO4-based sorbents using spent LiMn2O4 batteries and waste glass powder. Four Li4SiO4 sorbents were synthesized using Li2
