[Topical therapy for atopic eczema].

Atopic eczema is a chronic recurrent inflammatory skin disease characterized by intensive pruritus and a high burden of disease. Based on a genetically determined skin barrier dysfunction, xerosis cutis and a tendency towards microbial skin infections are the leading clinical features. Mild and moderate disease manifestations are common, and usually treated with topical agents only. Treatment concepts are usually based on a combination of (i) topical basic therapy consisting of skin cleansing and barrier stabilizing emollients and (ii) topical anti-inflammatory therapy of visible skin lesions …

Chronic Pruritus: Current and Emerging Treatment Options.

Chronic pruritus remains a central societal issue because of its high occurrence and the substantial decrease in quality of life it may cause to affected individuals. Not only dermatological conditions, but also systemic, neurological, or psychiatric diseases may lead to chronic pruritus. Additionally, various underlying conditions may coexist or the cause may be unknown. Due to its heterogeneity, the therapeutic approach is complex and remains a challenge for the clinician. Basic measures such as emollients to avoid xerosis and treatment of the underlying disease should be initiated regardles…

OBJECTIVES: To assess the allergenic potential of moisturisers by analysing their ingredients and determining the prevalence of contact allergens. METHODS: A survey conducted between April and June 2023. MCPs were collected from supermarkets and pharmacies. Dat

NECASA II: A Practical Algorithm Integrating Skincare in the Management of Adult Female Acne in the Nordic European Countries.

BACKGROUND: Adult female acne presents challenges, including increased prevalence, distinct clinical manifestations, heightened skin sensitivity, treatment-related intolerance, and reduced treatment adherence. Integrating skincare into acne management is essential, particularly in Nordic European countries, where environmental factors influence skin physiology. The Nordic European Countries Acne Skincare Algorithm (NECASA) II algorithm serves as an evidence-based practical tool for clinicians in this region to select appropriate skincare based on individual patients' needs to optimize acne car

Clinical studies in Chinese subjects investigating the tolerance and soothing efficacy of a cream and balm containing 4-t-butylcyclohexanol on the sensitivity of facial skin.

INTRODUCTION: Asian subjects are particularly prone to skin sensitivity. We developed a facial cream and balm containing 4-t-butylcyclohexanol to provide skin comfort and a soothing effect for sensitive skin. OBJECTIVES: Assess the dermatological and ophthalmological tolerance and efficacy in improving skin sensitivity of face cream and balm under normal conditions of use by a population known to be particularly prone to this problem. METHODS: In a monocentric non-randomized open trial, the cream or balm was applied twice daily to the face, neck, and eye contour of 33 stinger subjects with h

BACKGROUND: Adult female acne (AFA) nowadays is a very common skin condition affecting mainly women aged between 25 and 40. The treatment of AFA could be challenging. STUDY AIM: We evaluate and compare the efficacy and tolerability of a cream formulation containing two retinoid molecules (hydroxypinacolone/retinyl palmitate) combined with Iris Florentina root extract and a complex of three oligopeptides (C) applied twice a day (morning and evening) alone or in combination (C + O) with a food supplement containing a mixture of prebiotic molecules (FOS&GOS) zinc, lactoferrin, and niacinamide.

[New treatments for atopic dermatitis].

New treatments for atopic dermatitis Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common skin disorders in Sweden. The pathogenesis is a complex counterplay between a defect skin barrier and an abnormal immune response that can be caused by genetic and/or environmental factors. Atopic dermatitis has a huge negative impact on quality of life. New and more specific treatments are under way and hopefully we will, in the near future, better treat even the more severe cases of atopic dermatitis.
