Emesis of an enteral bullet: A rare case of bullet embolism to the thoracic esophagus.

A case of migration of a foreign body from the stomach to the thoracic esophagus is described. The bullet was successfully retrieved endoscopically after exploratory laparotomy was performed to address the patient's injuries. Enteral migration of bullets is a rare phenomenon that should be considered when the location of retained ballistic fragments is inconsistent with gunshot wounds and expected trajectories.

Synthol systemic complications: Hypercalcemia and pulmonary granulomatosis. A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Synthol injection for body contouring has been used by bodybuilders for some time. We report two extremely rare systemic complications; pulmonary granulomatosis and hypercalcemia, in a woman who has received Synthol injections for buttocks augmentation. PRESENTATION OF CASE: The case discussed in this report is of a 36-year-old lady who presented for severe hypercalcemia and nephrocalcinosis. Subsequent workup revealed granulomas in the buttocks and in the lungs. Upon questioning, it was discovered that she had received Synthol injection for buttocks augmentation a few months ea

An Unusual Foreign Body-Caused Chondral Lesion of the Talar Dome: A Case Report.

CASE: A patient presented with chronic ankle pain and instability. Imaging revealed a talar osteochondral lesion as well as intra-articular loose bodies. Intraoperatively, an unusual, well-demarcated chondral defect was found. A glass fragment was also identified in the joint. The patient subsequently recalled a minor ankle laceration from a shattered glass bottle, suggesting unrecognized foreign body retention as the cause of the cartilage damage. CONCLUSION: This is the first reported example of glass migrating into the ankle joint, leading to significant cartilage damage. This case highlig

An unusually long electric wire in a urethra and bladder.

Foreign bodies in the urethra and bladder are mostly due to self-insertion, iatrogenic insertion, migration from surrounding organs or through penetrating injuries. Self-insertion of a foreign body through the urethra is mostly related to sexual gratification, psychiatric conditions or to get relief from the intractable voiding symptoms. We present a case of a 17-year-old male who self-introduced an extremely long 120 cm electrical wire into his bladder for sexual gratification. The wire was removed by supra-pubic cystotomy to avoid urethral injuries.

Spontaneous complete migration of suture material after subcuticular continuous suture in cesarean section: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Skin closure during cesarean section is often performed with subcuticular running sutures by using a nonabsorbable suture material. However, this material has the risk of incomplete removal after wound healing and can migrate to other sites in rare cases. CASE PRESENTATION: A 34-year-old Korean woman who had undergone a cesarean section 5 months prior presented with a fine, blue object visible through the skin on her left lower abdomen. No pain or any other signs of inflammation were observed. The foreign body was revealed to be 10-cm-long suture material that had migrated lateral

A rare case of retained metallic foreign body in liver: case report and review of literature.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Foreign bodies in the liver are uncommon but can lead to severe conditions like liver abscess and sepsis. They typically enter through direct penetration, migration from the gastrointestinal tract, or through the blood. Common foreign objects include metal pins, or sewing needles swallowed accidentally. CASE PRESENTATION: A 25-year-old male presented to our OPD with pain over the right abdomen with a prior history of projectile injury causing laceration over the right anterior abdomen with primary suturing. On radiological investigation, a retained foreign body wa

Twiddler syndrome and Reel syndrome in patients with subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (S-ICD): a meta-summary of case reports.

BACKGROUND: Twiddler and Reel syndrome are mechanical complications of transvenous devices and are rarely reported in subcutaneous ICD (S-ICD) recipients. METHODS: We reviewed published cases and report Reel syndrome in a 15-year-old patient with an S-ICD, the youngest described. RESULTS: Ten cases were identified. The most common clinical presentation was inappropriate shocks due to altered sensing vectors. Diagnosis was confirmed by device interrogation and chest radiography. Risk factors are similar to those observed in transvenous devices. CONCLUSIONS: Twiddler and Reel syndrome can occur

[Migration of a contraceptive implant into the pulmonary artery].

Each year, in Belgium and Europe, thousands of contraceptive implants are inserted, representing an effective and long-lasting method of contraception. Their ease of use and prolonged duration of action make them a preferred choice for many women. However, although complications are rare, they do exist. Among these, implant migration is one of the most concerning. Its incidence remains extremely low, estimated at approximately 1 case per 100,000. In most cases, this migration is asymptomatic, but it can sometimes cause alarming symptoms. These may include dyspnea, hemoptysis, or, in rare cases

Pericardial migration of ventriculoperitoneal shunt: a case report with review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunting is the standard surgical treatment for hydrocephalus, yet it is associated with a wide range of complications. Distal catheter migration into the pericardial cavity is exceedingly rare and poses an immediate life-threatening risk due to potential cardiac tamponade. CASE PRESENTATION: A 1-year-old male infant, who had undergone VP shunt insertion for congenital communicating hydrocephalus at 3 months of age, presented with acute respiratory distress. Neuroimaging revealed a right-sided subdural hygroma. Chest imaging demonstrated a right pleural e

The perils of Double-J stent placement: What radiologists must know.

The use of ureteral stents has seen a substantial rise in modern urological practice, serving as an indispensable tool in the management of urinary tract obstructions, stone disease, and postoperative drainage. However, their widespread application is accompanied by a high incidence of complications, each with potentially devastating consequences if left unrecognized. Encrustation and stone formation may result in obstruction, necessitating complex retrieval procedures. Stent migration can lead to severe discomfort, infection, and compromised renal function. Infection and pyelonephritis, if un

An extremely rare complication during carotid artery stenting using a Wallstent: Migration of a stent holder of a Carotid Wallstent.

BackgroundCarotid artery stenting (CAS) is an established treatment for internal carotid artery stenosis (ICS). The Carotid Wallstent is commonly used as a stent device in CAS procedures. Rare complications associated with the use of the Carotid Wallstent in CAS procedures include delayed shortening and incomplete stent expansion due to displacement of a marker ring. However, there have been no previous reports of a stent holder becoming unpredictably detached from a Carotid Wallstent during a procedure, requiring the additional deployment of another Carotid Wallstent.Case presentationThe case

Removal of errant coils using the Tigertriever-13.

Coil migration poses a significant intraprocedural risk during coil embolization in interventional neuroradiology procedures. In this technical video we describe the technique of removal of errand coils using the low profile Tigertriever-13 device.1 Traditional methods of errant coil retrieval rely on the use of stent retrievers;2 however, these devices are usually too large to fit through smaller inner diameter 0.013-0.0165 inch coiling catheters, thus requiring upsizing materials in emergency situations.3 We demonstrate the technique of coil retrieval using this low-profile device ex-vivo in

Early diagnosis to avoid invasive treatment in cardiac migration of a ventriculoperitoneal catheter: a qualitative systematic review and Weibull analysis of case reports.

OBJECTIVE: The migration of distal catheter after ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement is a rare but significant complication. Especially in a case of cardiac migration, open-heart surgery or catheter intervention may be required. The authors encountered a case of cardiac migration that fortunately could be treated by withdrawal. A systematic review of cardiac migration was performed to clarify when and how migration was diagnosed and why invasive treatments were required. Based on the collected cases, a Weibull analysis of the latency until diagnosis was performed to examine whether cardiac m

Migration of the anal distal end due to ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement: an atypical case report of a 9-month-old infant with tuberculous meningitis and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) represents one of the most classic and widely used treatments for hydrocephalus in pediatric patients. Migration and externalization of the distal end of the catheter through the rectum are extremely rare complications of intestinal perforation with devastating consequences such as meningitis or peritonitis due to enteric bacteria that are significantly life-threatening. Besides, one of the biggest topics with that is that it can happen without producing symptoms, like the patient we present in this case report, which further masks the condition and

Review of Risk Factors and Complications of Anterior Migration of Ozurdex Implant: Lessons Learnt from the Previous Reports.

Purpose: Ozurdex had shown promising anatomical and functional outcomes in managing refractory Irvine-Gass syndrome over the years. Burgeoning usage of Ozurdex has prompted the study of its related complications, particularly the anterior chamber migration of the implant. Methods: Literature reviews on the anterior chamber migration of the Ozurdex via PubMed, EBSCO, and TRIP databases were searched from 2012 to 2020. The predisposing factors, outcomes, and management of such cases were evaluated. Results: A total of 54 articles consisting of 105 cases of anterior migration of Ozurdex were incl

Bullet embolism: a rare cause of acute ischaemia.

Embolization of a bullet or shrapnel from the heart (left ventricle) to the peripheral arterial circulation is practically unknown. We present a 38-year-old man with no comorbidities who was referred to our centre with a bullet injury to the left side of his chest. The patient complained of mild pain and numbness in his right lower limb. A trauma series was advised. A contrast angiogram of the peripheral lower limbs showed a bullet in the right popliteal artery with no flow in the tibial arteries. A bullet was removed from the distal popliteal artery at its bifurcation with a long thrombus pro

Bladder stone caused by misplaced intrauterine contraceptive device: a case report.

Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) when placed in the uterine cavity is used for contraception or treatment of intrauterine adhesion, but it has become a cause of unintended bladder stone due to wrongful placement or migration. It may cause blood in urine and painful urination. Pelvic ultrasound and X-ray were used to make the diagnosis of the bladder stone with the embedded IUCD, which was removed by open vesicolithotomy through a Pfannenstiel suprapubic incision. Cases such as this are highly preventable if post procedure and routine annual pelvic ultrasonography are emphasized as stan
