The aims of the present case report are to describe the non-surgical management in addition to hyaluronic acid application of two gingival recessions with cleft and to perform a narrative review on the newest evidence of non-surgical treatment of gingival recessions. A 47-year-old female patient with dentine hypersensitivity and pain during brushing has type 1 gingival recession with red Stillman's cleft on 1.4 and 1.5. The gingival defects have been treated with a Gracey curette n° 7/8 to cause bleeding. Sodium hyaluronate gel has been applied in the gingival sulcus of both elements affected.

The oral mucosa can suffer a series of traumatic injuries from various causes (bacterial plaque, tartar, fillings, incorrectly adapted prosthesis). A risk factor generating periodontal diseases is represented by fixed orthodontic therapy, if the forces exerted on it are excessive. These forces cause more or less extensive injuries both on the surface and in depth. One of these lesions is gingival hypergrowth. Early injuries concern only the superficial periodontium and are represented by mild or moderate inflammation, gingival hypergrowth, which can be reversible after removing the irritating

A healthy gingival structure showcases a knife-edged gingival margin, firmly adherent to the tooth surface, accompanied by a cone-shaped or pointed interdental papilla, mirroring the lowest point in the gingival margin, termed the gingival zenith. Tooth transposition denotes an anomaly in tooth positioning, commonly involving the canine and the first maxillary premolar. It represents a form of ectopic eruption, wherein two adjacent teeth interchange positions within the same quadrant of the dental arch. Laser wavelengths are utilized for precise incision of gingival tissues to address restorat

Enamel renal gingival syndrome is a rare clinical condition characterized by the presence of amelogenesis imperfecta hypoplastic type, gingival fibromatosis and delayed tooth eruption, in addition to nephrocalcinosis with normal blood calcium levels. It is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait caused by mutations in the FAM20A gene located on chromosome 17q24.2. The purpose of this report is to describe a case of enamel renal gingival syndrome and discuss its distinct features and management.

Gingival enlargement (GE) is an increase in the size of the gingiva. It may be due to inflammation caused by extensive plaque accumulation, intake of drugs, systemic conditions like pregnancy and puberty, systemic diseases such as leukemia or Wegener's granulomatosis, hereditary gingival fibromatosis, and neoplastic or false enlargement. Idiopathic GE is the massive increase in the size of the gingiva with an unknown etiology. It may have a hereditary basis, be linked to physical impairment, or begin with eruption of primary or permanent dentition. It is also referred as gingivomatosis, heredi

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the relationship between gingival biotype (GT) and malocclusion.
METHODS: The review followed PRISMA standards of quality for systematic reviews and meta-analyses reporting with PROSPERO registration number CRD42020126543. The systematic database search included MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, PsychINFO, CINAHL, and other key journals; the article search was performed until February 2020. Cochrane's risk of bias in non-randomized studies-of interventions (ROBINS-I) was used to grade the methodological quality of the included studies.
RESULTS: The systematic searc

Gingival fibroblasts (GFs) are essential components of the periodontium, which are responsible for the maintenance of tissue structure and integrity. However, the physiological role of GFs is not restricted to the production and remodeling of the extracellular matrix. GFs also act as sentinel cells that modulate the immune response to oral pathogens invading the gingival tissue. As an important "nonclassical" component of the innate immune system, GFs respond to bacteria and damage-related signals by producing cytokines, chemokines, and other inflammatory mediators. Although the activation of

Dental implants may require attached tissue to prevent peri-mucositis or peri-implantitis. When there is a lack of attached tissue at the mandibular lingual aspect of dental implants, a free gingival graft may be done after careful consideration of nearby anatomical structures. An acryl stent can be used to protect the site from oral functioning.

Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO) is an undesirable effect resulting from the therapy of one of the three groups of drugs: phenytoin, calcium channel blockers, and cyclosporine A (CsA). It is caused by a fibrous overgrowth leading to gingivitis, periodontitis, and even tooth loss. Possible consequences include tooth decay worsening, pain and difficulty in eating, bleeding gums, and bad breath. The pathomechanism of the hypertrophy is unknown, but there is a correlation between insufficient oral hygiene and the severity of this phenomenon. The gender and age predilection of gingival hyper…

INTRODUCTION: The goal of this research was to assess the impact of orthodontic root movement on gingival recessions.
METHODS: Twelve consecutive adult patients with a mandibular incisor presenting buccal or lingual gingival recession and with the root positioned outside the alveolar bone were enrolled. The roots were moved toward the center of the alveolar process with a goal oriented segmented appliance. The following variables were measured at baseline and after orthodontic treatment: (1) recession depth, (2) recession width, and (3) recession area. In addition, pocket probing depth, kerat

OBJECTIVE: The aim of systematic review was to describe the phenotypes and molecular profiles of syndromes with gingival fibromatosis (GF).
METHODS: A comprehensive search of PubMed, LILACS, Livivo, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted using key terms relevant to the research questions and supplemented by a gray literature search. The Methodological Quality and Synthesis of Case Series and Case Reports in association with the Case Series and Prevalence Studies from the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools were used for the risk of bias. We followed the PRISMA checklist guideli

Gingival epithelium plays a pivotal role in protecting the underlying periodontium from the microbial colonization found in the gingival sulcus. Having an appropriate phenotype displayed by gingival epithelial cells is a critical host component required for protection against bacterial invasion into gingival tissues. In the present study, gingival epithelial homeostasis associated with the CXCL-8/IL-8 chemokine response was investigated in vitro to determine the mechanisms that gingival epithelial cells utilize for sensing gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. The findings of this st

Several distinct classes of drugs, such as anticonvulsants, immunosuppressants, and calcium channel blockers, caused gingival overgrowth. One of the main drugs associated with the gingival overgrowth is the anti-epileptic such as phenytoin, which affects gingival tissues by altering extracellular matrix metabolism. In our study, we evaluate the effect of phenytoin, a drug whose active substance is phenytoin, on gingival fibroblasts of healthy volunteers. Gene expression of 29 genes was investigated in gingival fibroblasts' cell culture treated with phenytoin compared with untreated cells. Amon

The simplified taxonomy of gingival conditions includes: 1) introduction of the term "incipient gingivitis;" 2) a description of the extent and severity of gingival inflammation; 3) a description of the extent and severity of gingival enlargement and; 4) a reduction of categories in the dental plaque-induced gingival disease taxonomy.
