The present study reviews 215 male patients suffering high velocity-high energy injuries of the lower leg or foot caused by war weapons such as missiles, gunshots, and land mines. They were treated in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Gulhane Military Medical Academy (Ankara, Turkey) between November 1993-January 2001. Severe soft-tissue defects requiring flap coverage and associated open bone fractures that were treated 7-21 days (mean, 9.6 days) after the injury were included in the study. Twenty-three of 226 extremities (10.2%) underwent primary below-knee amputation.

Thymidine kinase 2 deficiency (TK2d) is an ultra-rare autosomal recessive mitochondrial myopathy with variable presentations, including late-onset forms beginning after age 12. Unlike early-onset disease, the natural history of late-onset TK2d remains poorly defined. BACKGROUND: Free functional gracilis transfer (FFGT) is the gold standard for dynamic facial reanimation in long-standing facial paralysis and its success depends on the availability of reliable recipient vessels. In patients with compromised vessels due to prior surgery, radiation, or trauma, arteriovenous (AV) loops are a well-established reconstructive strategy. This narrative review aimed to summarize the consequences of hamstring tendon (HT) harvest for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), with reference to tendon regeneration, knee flexor morphology, clinical assessment of knee flexion strength, and rehabilitation strategies for optimizing recovery. The favourable treatment of post-traumatic brachial plexus lesions based on our experience of 362 cases over a 12 year period is reported. Twenty-five percent of the patients needed secondary operations. Herein, we report a new model, which allows comparative study of the microcirculation of different peripheral tissues, i.e., periosteum, skeletal muscle, subcutis, and skin.
