The role of home practice in thermal biofeedback.

The role of regular home practice of hand warming was examined in the thermal biofeedback (TBF) treatment of vascular (migraine and mixed migraine and tension) headache (HA) by giving 12 sessions (over 6 weeks) of TBF to two groups of vascular HA patients (n = 23 per group). One group was asked to practice regularly at home with a home trainer between clinic sessions, whereas no mention of practice was made to the other group. A third group merely monitored HAs. Treatment was superior to no treatment. There was no advantage for the group receiving home practice, either in headache reduction or

Strategic planning: today's hot buttons.

The first generation of mergers and managed care hasn't slowed down group practices' need for strategic planning. Even groups that already went through one merger are asking about new mergers or ownership possibilities, the future of managed care, performance standards and physician unhappiness. Strategic planning, including consideration of bench-marking, production of ancillary services and physician involvement, can help. Even if only a short, general look at the future, strategic planning shows the proactive leadership needed in today's environment.

What interests children about sexuality?: exploring narratives and questions from primary school children in Spain.

BACKGROUND: In recent decades, international organisations have advocated for comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in school curricula, emphasising its role in equipping children with knowledge, skills, and values for informed, healthy, and respectful decisions about sexuality. Despite this, CSE programmes often focus on adolescence, adopting a preventive approach centred on risks like HIV and unintended pregnancies, while neglecting topics such as pleasure, gender diversity, and decision-making. This study explores the interests and questions of primary school children (aged 9-11) in Spain

[Delegation of GP services to medical assistants: Perspectives over time. Results from focus groups with medical assistants and GPs at 12-year intervals].

INTRODUCTION: In light of the growing workload in general practices, a redistribution of medical tasks between general practitioners (GPs) and medical assistants (MAs) is being discussed. METHODS: The delegation of medical tasks to MAs and the division of tasks within the practice team were discussed in six focus groups that were held 12 years apart and involved 21 MAs and 19 practicing GPs. The contributions were simultaneously visualized by a co-moderator using knowledge mapping and validated in consultation with the participants. The Focus Group Illustration maps generated in this way were

Menstrual product preference and factors associated with use of freely-distributed reusable products among secondary students in Uganda: a longitudinal study.

INTRODUCTION: Access to menstrual products is a key factor for improving menstrual health, but there is limited research on the facilitators and barriers to their uptake and use. We describe menstrual product use, and factors associated with use of freely-distributed reusable pads and menstrual cups among female students in Ugandan secondary schools. METHODS: We analysed one-year follow-up data nested within a cluster-randomised trial evaluating the effectiveness of a multi-component menstrual health intervention among female students in 60 schools. The intervention included provision of five

What Women with HIV Know about Heart Health and Cardiovascular Risk and Intervention Preferences.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a significant health concern influenced by various determinants. Stigma and resilience have emerged as factors in CVD development and management. Women with HIV (WWH) have higher CVD rates than women without HIV. To improve cardiovascular health for WWH, a comprehensive understanding of how these factors interact, the understanding about individual awareness and willingness to engage in risk-reduction interventions are needed. Methods: As part of a study examining CVD risk among WWH aged >35 years old, 90-min focus groups were conducted (May 2022) in the English

Association of race and ethnicity with opioid prescribing for Medicare beneficiaries following total joint replacements.

BACKGROUND: Profound racial and ethnic disparities exist in the use and outcomes of total hip/knee replacements (total joint replacements [TJR]). Our objective is to examine the association of race and ethnicity with opioid fills following elective TJRs for White, Black, and Hispanic Medicare beneficiaries. METHODS: We used the 2019 national Medicare data to identify beneficiaries who underwent total hip/knee replacements. Primary outcomes were at least one opioid fill in the period from discharge to 30 days post-
